Band of Champions’ members notch regional honors

On Dec. 10, Queen City Band of Champions’ members tried out for Region Band against other 1A-4A bands in the region which are all in the northeast Texas area. The region stretches from Paris to White Oak.
After a day of performances 15 students qualified for Region Band.
Just making the Region band qualified the students to be Area Qualifiers which stretches the entire span of east Texas. 
Tryouts for All-State will be on Jan. 7, at Chapel Hill High School in Tyler. At this audition, if they perform well enough, they will be selected into the All-State band and will be have the opportunity to play in a clinic and concert on Jan. 20-21 at White Oak High School.

Morris Upchurch Middle School’s girls’ basketball teams faced off against Redwater recently.
The seventh grade Lady Bulldogs played a hard game but ultimately lost 36-12. 
The seventh graders played hard the entire game but just couldn’t get the shots they needed to fall. The leading scorer for the Lady Bulldogs was Destinee Wells with eight points. 
The eighth grade Lady Bulldogs showed up ready to fight for their first district win. 
The young Lady Bulldogs played hard for four quarters but ultimately fell 21-18. 
Hannah Fitts was the leading scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with seven points.  
“I am very proud of both of these groups of girl’s willingness to learn the game,” Coach Bekkah Crisp said. “Each time they come into the gym they are ready to work hard and listen to improve their game.”
Queen City’s junior high girls’ basketball team traveled to New Boston recently to compete in their third district game.

Lady Rabbits take home All-District volleyball honors

The 14-4A All-District volleyball list was released recently and a few Lady Rabbits took home honors.
Senior TeShuna Sheppard was named Superlative Blocker; Avery Trotter was named to the First Team; Alecia Garcia and Alyssa Simmons were named to the Second Team and Brittany Collins, Keyona Easter, and Cydnee Wood were Honorable Mention players. 
Ladies making the Academic All-District list were:  Daniela Arredondo, Collins, Garcia, Dyamond Grant, Aniya King, Candace Nuckels, Sheppard, Simmons, Trotter, Amanda Whatley and Wood.

Longhorns crowned champions of Union Grove tourney

McLeod’s varsity boys’ basketball team rolled through Union Grove’s Demetra Carter Lewis Tournament and won the championship game 78-49 over Marshall JV.
Beforehand the Longhorns topped Como-Pickton 49-31 with J.R. Smith pouring in 24 points followed by Colby Smith with 10, Zach Prince with seven and Mac Calhoun with four.
In another game the Longhorns beat Harleton 52-31. J.R. Smith had 17 points, Colby Smith added 16, Prince posted six and Zach Mauldin recorded six.

T3 Elite competes in Glitter Extravaganza

The T3 Elite Competition Gymnastics team competed in the Glitter Extravaganza in Cabot, Ark., on Saturday, Nov. 5.  
The Level 1 team won second place, and the Level 2 team walked away with the third place team award.  
Individual awards are as follows: (Level 1) Kynleigh Adcock – First place vault, fourth place uneven bars, fourth place balance beam, second place floor exercise, fourth place all-around; and Kaleigh Haskins – Fifth place vault, fifth place bars, fifth place beam, fifth place floor, fifth place all-around. (Level 2) Abigail Bickham – Second place vault, second place bars, first place beam, first place bars, first place all-around; Elizabeth Bickham – Sixth place vault, sixth place bars, sixth place beam, fourth place floor, seventh place all-around; and Breonna Phelps:  Seventh place vault, ninth place bars, seventh place beam, eighth place floor, seventh place all-around.
