Tigers drop game to Mustangs 68-63

Linden-Kildare’s varsity boys’ basketball team finished out their season with a 68-63 loss at home against county rival Hughes Springs on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

L-K actually had a jump start on the Mustangs after rolling out to a 17-12 first quarter lead, but Hughes Springs outscored the Tigers 22-17 in the second to knot the score up at 34-34 by halftime.

Lady Tigers compete in Carthage Tourney

Linden-Kildare’s Lady Tigers softball team competed in the Carthage Tourney starting on Thursday, Feb. 14, and ending play on Saturday, Feb. 16.

The Tigers are ranked 5th in class 2A by the Texas Girls Softball Association and prepared for the season by taking part in the Carthage Tourney and playing some quality teams in the process.

NB squeaks by Lady Rabbs 3-2

The Lady Rabbs traveled to New Boston Friday, Feb. 15, and fell 3-2 to the Lady Lions in a late inning rally.

New Boston scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one run in the fifth, and Atlanta pushed their only runs across in the top of the sixth but couldn’t advance any other players.

Hooks shuts out McLeod 10-0

McLeod’s Lady Longhorns softball squad hosted Hooks Friday, Feb. 15, but the Lady Hornets weren’t good guests as they shut down the Lady ‘Horns 10-0.

Hooks’ pitcher quieted the McLeod bats throughout the game which was called after five innings on the 10-run rule.

Volleyball youth compete in Dallas showdown Feb. 15

The Northeast Texas (N.E.T.) juniors’ volleyball teams participated in the Trinity River Valentine Showdown in Dallas Friday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 16.
The teams are comprised of 12-under and 14-under girls from Atlanta and Hooks, and are coached by Atlanta High School’s head volleyball coach, Dawn Stewart. Stewart is assisted by coaches Regina Latimer, Bailey McDonald and Amber Raines.

Rabbs in pursuit of another title in 2013 season

Atlanta’s golf teams are getting into the swing of things this season already, and both squads have the depth and talent to be district champions. Head coach Luke Higgins trains both teams and hopes the girls’ team can not only defend their district title, but wrap up their 15th consecutive district championship in the process.

Atlanta Rabbits’ Iron team cranks it up

Atlanta’s Iron powerlifting team made another great showing, this time at the Carthage Powerlifting Meet Thursday, Feb. 7. The Rabbs lifted against host Carthage, Hallsville and Cass County neighbors Linden-Kildare.
Kason Willis placed first in the super heavy weights division with a total lift of 1,360 lbs. In the 181 pound weight class and below, Alvin Battle placed second, Levi Roberts fourth and Damien Lawson fifth.

Bulldogs conquer Dragons, 76-47

Senior night at Queen City High School began with a thrilling junior varsity game and ended with a 76-47 Bulldog drubbing of Redwater on Friday, Feb. 8. Four players scored in double digits for the Bulldogs, and seniors Dylan Copeland and Chris Young were sent off in style. The Dragons were overmatched from the beginning as the ‘Dawgs rolled out to a 19-10 first quarter lead behind strong play from all five starters and bench players. Queen City increased their lead at the half after putting up 18 points to Redwater’s 11 for a 37-21 lead.
