L-K junior high basketball teams begin district play

Linden-Kildare’s 8th grade basketball team has 12 members and has compiled a 2-1 record with wins over area rivals Daingerfield and Paul Pewitt. Dalton Alford scored the game winning 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded to give L-K the 31-28 victory over Daingerfield in the first district game of the season.

Tigers battle in three games at Big Sandy Tourney

The Linden-Kildare boys’ basketball team struggle this past weekend, going 0-3 in the Big Sandy Tournament. 
The losses drop the team’s record to 5-9 on the season.

Queen City wins 1st at tourney

Queen City’s varsity basketball team placed first in the Bloomburg Tournament after defeating Pleasant Grove’s JV squad in the championship. PG JV was the defending champion but that honor is now held by Queen City for another year.

L-K’s Smoak, Green named to All-Tournament Team L-K Lady Tigers win 2nd place at Redwater Basketball Invite

It was a good weekend for the L-K Lady Tigers as they not only walked away with second place at the Redwater Invitational Tournament, but had two members named to the All-Tournament Team.
Haylee Smoak and Shenari Green were named All-Tournament for their play over three games.

Lady Longhorns finish second in their own tournament

McLeod placed second at the Lady Longhorns’ Basketball Tournament which wrapped up this past weekend. In each of the three tourneys thay have competed in the Lady ’Horns have finished in the top three. The team is from left: Courtney Hanson, Jessica  Keener, Selena Moon, Anna Parker, Kyndal Shepard, Erin Weaver, Shelby Davis, Emma Parker, Skyla Courtney and Lexy Morgan. McLeod hosted their own tournament this past week and finished in second place by just six points.
After defeating county rival Bloomburg 59-28 and Queen City’s JV team 57-13 the Lady ’Horns won on a forfeit by the McLeod JV team and lost to New Diana by a narrow margin of 49-48.

Area Basketball Action

Queen City rallied to beat Commerce 30-27 at the Winnsboro Tournament on Dec. 4.
The Lady Bulldogs were outscored, 17-9, in the first half but finished the game with a 21-10 scoring run.
Jessica Jones led QC with 15 points and Tierra Johnson added nine.

Lady Tigers fall against PG, struggles at tourney

After opening their season with a 5-1 run, the Linden-Kildare Lady Tigers found trouble this past week, losing to Pleasant Grove at home then going 1-3 at the Hughes Springs Tournament.
Hosting the Lady Hawks Dec. 2, L-K’s troubles started early as the Lady Hawks scored 29 points in the opening quarter on their way to a 72-20 victory.

McLeod Lady Longhorns take home 2nd place trophy

McLeod’s varsity girls’ basketball squad placed second in the James Bowie Tournament this past weekend and already has a third place finish in the Queen City tourney from earlier in the season. The ladies are from (L to R) Stevey Jo Hamilton, Selena Moon, Shelby Davis, Emma Parker, Anna Parker, Erin Weaver, Jessica Keener, Kyndal Shepard, Lexy Morgan, Courtney Hanson and Skyla Courtney. McLeod’s Lady Longhorns had a very successful weekend in the James Bowie Tournament as the championship game was decided by 11 points.
The Lady ’Horns smoked Avinger 46-19; a team that they met twice before this game.

Tigers go 2-4 in Hooks tourney, prepares for another

Last week was a difficult one for the Linden-Kildare Boys Varsity basketball team, as they compiled a 2-5 record over their seven games.
The week opened Dec. 2 on the road as they faced the Jefferson Bulldogs. The team could not overcome a slow start, losing 77-66.

The curtain has closed on a very successful season for the Atlanta Rabbits’ football team.
Despite being tossed into a new district full of tough opponents, the Rabbs finished their district run at 4-1 and carried a state ranking the entire year.
