QC battles Tigers and Mustangs as district play begins

Queen City’s boys’ varsity basketball team finished their pre-district run with a record of 11-6 and after two district games their record stands at 12-7, 1-1.
On Jan. 2, the Bulldogs opened district against Daingerfield at home.

Hughes Springs topples Tigers in district play

The Hughes Springs Mustangs were dominant Jan. 9, with the both their Boys and Girls Varsity and JV squads picking up wins over Linden-Kildare.
Breanne Gunn scored 20 points to lead the Lady Mustangs past the Lady Tigers 45-30.

Daingerfield wins ‘Battle of Tigers’ vs. Linden-Kildare

January 6, was billed the “Battle of The Tigers” as Daingerfield faced off against Linden-Kildare in a district basketball match-ups. 
Daingerfield proved to be too much for L-K, with both the boys and girls’ varsity coming away with wins. It was Linden-Kildare’s JV teams who provided “W”s for their school.

Lady Rabbs Basketball Team

Atlanta’s Lady Rabbs finished pre-district play last week and will begin district play at home against Pittsburg on Friday, Jan. 9, with JV action set to begin at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity team. The varsity ladies are, from (L to R) Deanna Dickerson, Kwan Shepard, Stonni Farmer, Keandra Thomas, Teshuna Sheppard, Kaylea Moro, Amber Adams, Cierra Garcia, Alisha Phelps, Daz Benjamin, Byeishea Haskins, Jada Pickens and Head Coach Jarrick Farmer.

Queen City Band of Champions’ members take part in ATSSB All-Region Band auditions

On Dec. 13, a group of Queen City Band of Champion members participated in the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) Region 4 “All-Region Band” auditions. 
Chosen as members were, from (L to R) Tyler Moore, Jake Rankin, Zach Worley, who also qualified for Area Band, Kei’andra Gamble and Madeline Corn.

Lady Longhorns stampede past Linden-Kildare, 46-27

McLeod avenged a loss earlier in the season to Linden-Kildare by blasting the Lady Tigers, 46-27, on Dec. 30.
The Lady Longhorns rushed out to a 16-2 lead after the first quarter and calmed the home crowd’s nerves of any possible nail-biter in the process.

What kind of person uses multi-million dollar satellites to find Tupperware containers? Geocachers do.
According to Groundspeak, operator of the world’s largest online database of geocaches, “geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.”

Area basketball bounces on with local teams claiming wins

Queen City hosted DeKalb on Dec. 16, and sent the Bears home with a 63-57 loss.
The Bulldogs fell behind 30-20 after two quarters of play but by the time the final frame arrived QC was down by one with the score set at, 42-41. The ’Dawgs torched DeKalb 22-15 in the fourth to pull out the 6-point victory.

Rabbits dominate All-District list after superb year

Atlanta topped off one of the best seasons in Rabbits’ football history this fall after finishing the year 12-2 and taking the program and its faithful fan base to the State Quarterfinals.
Along the way the Rabbit Express amassed 607 points while holding opponents to just 270.
