Tigers beat Pewitt, 77-40

The Linden-Kildare boys’ basketball team (9-22, 3-8) took care of business Friday night, beating Paul Pewitt 77-40.
The Tigers jumped out to a 20-11 first-quarter lead with Ja’Kevian Rose and Jim Brown dropping three-pointers. Brown led the team with 16 points while Rose would finish with eight points.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

After a one-year hiatus, action is starting to heat up on the Linden-Kildare High School softball field.
On Feb. 20 when the Lady Tigers take the field at Hooks it will be the first time the school has fielded a team since April 22, 2013.

Rabbs host and win inaugural Atlanta Iron Invitational

Atlanta Iron won their third consecutive powerlifting meet on Feb. 9, but this gathering had special meaning as it was the first meet hosted by Atlanta Iron at the Atlanta High School weight room.
The Rabbs scored 65 points at the Atlanta Iron Invitational en route to another crown followed by Hallsville with 36 points, Carthage with 25 points and Waskom with 20 points.

M.U.M.S. basketball teams win first at QC tourney

Hosting your own tournament gives you a sense of home court advantage and for the M.U.M.S. boys’ seventh and eighth grade basketball teams playing on their home turf paid dividends.
Both teams placed first overall in the Queen City Tournament on Feb. 7, at the ’Dawg Pound.

Lady Tigers fall to ’Stangs, 41-32, in district play

The Linden-Kildare Lady Tigers (9-17, 1-10) started off strong, but could overcome a 36-24 fourth-quarter deficit, losing 41-32 to the Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs. 
Three-pointers by Haylee Smoak and Hailey Taylor allowed L-K to keep the game close in the opening quarter, with the Mustangs holding onto a slim 2-point lead after the first eight minutes of play.

Miller prepared to get Runnin’ Rabbs back on track

An Atlanta High alumnus who once strapped up his running shoes for the Runnin’ Rabbs’ track team will take the reins as head coach for this year’s track team.
After leaving Atlanta High, Nick Miller ran track and studied accounting in college, eventually becoming a certified public account, but his heart was still in track. “I missed the sports,” he said. “It was my dream to coach track at Atlanta.”

Tigers, Lady Tigers drop heartbreaker games to rival QC

The Linden-Kildare Tigers Boys Varsity was unable to hold onto a 10-point first quarter lead, losing to Cass County rival Queen City 73-71.
The Tigers have arguably their best quarter of the season in the first as J.J. Darty proved unstoppable scoring 15 points.

Hunters go ‘buck wild’ in Newkirk’s Big Buck Contest

Newkirk Feed Store hosted another Big Buck Contest this hunting season and three individual hunters were awarded prizes in this year’s event.
Clyde Baker, co-founder of Big O’ Buck Products, hit the trail again this season to find sponsors who would donate goods to the winners of the contest.

Atlanta athletes ink their letters on National Signing Day

Six Atlanta High School athletes have signed letters of intent to play sports at different colleges after graduation this year. All across the nation high school seniors signed letters of intent to play for the college of their choice on Feb. 4.
Last Wednesday five more Atlanta High School athletes signed letters of intent to play ball after high school.

Daingerfield wins “Battle of the Tiger” on Jan. 30

The L-K Tigers could not take advantage of the home court, losing to Daingerfield on Jan. 30.
The Boys Varsity fell to 7-21, 1-7 on the season with a 74-26 loss to the Daingerfield Tigers.
