McLeod basketball programs clash with foes

McLeod’s basketball programs entertained their home crowds recently as they played two home games in a row on Jan. 17 and Jan. 20.
The Longhorns battled Big Sandy in a rare Saturday game on Jan. 17.

Chase Musgrove signs letter to play baseball at Panola

Another solid athlete out of Atlanta’s proverbial athletic program has been plucked up by an East Texas college.
Atlanta High School senior Chase Musgrove will take his unbelievable talents and athleticism to Panola College in Carthage where he will play baseball for the Ponies.

QC wins in comeback

Queen City hosted cross county rival Linden-Kildare on Jan. 13, and gave the crowd another good game to watch as they outscored L-K 23-13 in the second half to pull off a, 61-53 win.
The Bulldogs couldn’t find a rhythm in the first quarter as Jacobi Hamilton and Jimmy Larry combined for seven points while the defense held L-k to 11 points.

Queen City Lady Bulldogs beat L-K, 54-53, in overtime

Whenever rivals collide you can bet that there is going to be fireworks.
Queen City’s Jessica Jones provided the fireworks as she hit a 3-point basket with just a few seconds left on the clock in overtime to lift the Lady Bulldogs over county rival Linden-Kildare 54-53 on Jan. 13.

Area Basketball:Bloomburg wins on Homecoming

Bloomburg picked up a big district win last Friday night as they improved to 5-1 in District 24-A play with a 47-30 win over Yantis on Homecoming night.
Yantis caught fire in the first quarter as they rolled out to a 15-11 lead but the Lady Wildcats cut the lead to one point before halftime as Yantis only a held a slim 18-17 lead.

L-K girls fall to QC in overtime, boys lose to, 61-53

Linden-Kildare’s girls’ basketball team was on a roll over host Queen City on Jan. 13, but the Lady Bulldogs forced overtime with a big second half and won the game on a last second trey as QC went on to win 54-53.
The Lady Tigers bolted out to a 17-13 lead after the first frame and had a commanding 30-17 lead at the break.

QC Iron girls finish 1st, boys 2nd at Detroit Meet

The Queen City boys and girls power lifting teams traveled to Detroit on Jan. 17, to participate in their first meet of the year.  
Seven boys and eight girls made the trip for Queen City Iron bringing back with them a second and first place trophy respectively.

Ronnie Burns’ Cass County Buck Pot continues to grow

Hunting season is anticipated among hunters here in Northeast Texas much like any other likeable sports that go by seasons.
Another anticipated event in the area is the Ronnie Burns’ Big Buck Pot Contest which is an annual event hosted by Jaynes Farm and Feed in Linden.

Atlanta Iron wins first place at Hallsville Quad Meet

Atlanta’s powerlifting team participated in their first meet of the year last week and came home with a first place finish in the Hallsville Quad Meet.
Atlanta Iron scored 75 points followed by Carthage with 45, Hallsville with 39 and Waskom had 10.
