Linden-Kildare Tigers struggle at Mt. Vernon, drop pair

The Linden-Kildare Tigers and L-K Lady Tigers had trouble on the road, each losing their respective games.
The Boys varsity (7-20, 1-6) dropped their match 70-39, while the Girls (9-15, 1-8) faltered 73-35.

Atlanta Iron team wins Carthage Powerlifting Meet

Atlanta’s powerlifting squad claimed another championship on Jan. 29, as the Rabbit lifters finished the Carthage Powerlifting Meet with 65 points; 27 points better than the second place team.
Host Carthage finished second with 38 points, Hallsville was third with 27 points, Waskom had 15 points and New Summerfield finished fifth with seven points.

Lady Rabbs tangle with Lady Pirates, win 43-39

Atlanta’s Lady Rabbits’ basketball program invaded Pittsburg on Jan. 27, and the Lady Rabbs left town with a 45-39 win over the Lady Pirates in district play.
Atlanta was down only 10-8 after one quarter but the Lady Rabbs went on a 14-6 run in the second frame to close out the first half up 22-16.

MUMS boys win championships in Redlick Tournament

Queen City Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball teams participated in the Redlick Tournament on Jan. 24, and both squads returned home with championship trophies in hand.
The seventh grade team won their first game against Redwater 47-13 behind Matthew Davenport’s team-high 16 points.

Powerlifting season opens

The Linden-Kildare Tiger Powerlifting teams opened their season Jan. 24 at the Sulphur Springs Invitational.
Fernando Ramirez finished fifth in the 198-pound class with a combined 990 pounds. In individual lifts, he squatted 365 pounds; bench pressed 205 and dead lifted 420 pounds.

Tigers gain first win

The Tigers (7-18, 1-4) picked up their first win of the district season Jan. 20, beating the Paul Pewitt Brahmas 57-43.
After battling bucket for bucket in the opening quarter, the Tigers made their move in the second quarter with a 20-12 run.

Area basketball bounces on

QC notches big win
Queen City’s varsity boys’ basketball program got a huge win on Jan. 23, over Mount Vernon, 47-42. 
With the big victory there is a 3-way tie for second place in District 16-3A with the Bulldogs, Mount Vernon and Chapel Hill all sporting 4-2 records.

Chapel Hill sweeps L-K Tigers’ basketball programs

Despite a 19-point game by Jim Brown, the Linden-Kildare Tigers varsity (9-17, 1-5) could not contain Chapel Hill losing 60-46.
The two teams kept the game close in the opening quarters; with Chapel Hill taking a 25-23 lead into the halftime break. With defenses tight on the inside, both teams were forced to go for the long shots.

Jasmine Rowe nets U.S. Paralympic All-American honors

Jasmine Rowe has experienced the thrill of victory in her track career after graduating from Atlanta High School in 2014.
Jasmine was recently selected to the 2014 U.S. Paralympic High School Track and Field All-American team for her performance in the 100, 200 and 400 meter sprints events.
