Battle brings home gold for Atlanta, wins state title

Atlanta Iron Head Coach Craig Fant stands beside Alvin Battle after the senior lifter wrapped up Atlanta’s first-ever individual powerlifting state championship. Alvin won the gold medal after lifting 1,465 pounds at the State Meet. With that total Alvin beat out the silver medalist by 20 pounds.

Alvin Battle made sure to make his final powerlifting appearance of his high school career a memorable one.
Alvin came from behind in the dead lift event to overtake a lifter from Orangefield and win a 4A state championship in his weight class at the State Meet held on March 28, in Abilene held inside the Taylor County Convention Center.

FFA officers to the rescue

Linden-Kildare FFA Chapter and Greenhand Officers came to the rescue of the greenhouse plants on March 5, by transplanting them from their 150-180 growing and transportation flats to their new six-pack homes.

L-KHS competes for spot in Region 4 Honor Band

Earlier this year several students from Linden-Kildare High School competed for a spot in the Region 4 Honor Band.
High school band director Ron Williams described Honor Band auditions as a ‘warm up’ to All-Region auditions.

Tigers finish in third

Despite last week’s rain, the Linden-Kildare Tigers track team was able to compete in the Hooks Hornets Relays.
The team finished third out of 10 teams. Host school Hooks won first, with Waskom coming in second place.

Tigers, Lady Tigers drop early district matchups

In a rare rain-free day, the Linden-Kildare Tigers baseball team and Lady Tigers softball teams were able to get a full game on the books March 16 and 17.
Both teams, however, struggled with the baseball team losing 4-0 to Mt. Vernon. The softball team fell to Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill 18-1.

Lady Rabbs slam Pittsburg, 7-2, in district match

Atlanta and Pittsburg were scheduled to play each other last Friday night but with news of more rain heading towards the area both programs decided to play on March 17.
The day didn’t matter to the Lady Rabbs as they rolled past Pittsburg 7-2 in district play.

Area baseball, softball teams get in a few games

Lady Wildcats top Bradley Bears
Sophomore slinger Kaydee Kelly stymied the Lady Bears from Bradley, Ark., on March 17, as the Bloomburg Lady Wildcats obtained a 6-3 victory.
Kaydee recorded 12 strikeouts with no walks and went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two stolen bases.

Rabbs play three games in six days, build 7-2 record

ATL tops Mt. Pleasant
Atlanta has lucked out more than most teams which have dealt with bad field conditions due to horrible weather over the past month in having played quite a few more games.
The Rabbs (6-1) played three games in six days and went 2-1 in that span leaving them with an overall record of 7-2.

Lady Tigers open district with loss to Pewitt

After falling behind early, the Linden-Kildare Lady Tigers could not make up lost ground, dropping their district opener to Paul Pewitt 17-12.
Siarra Johnson took the loss for L-K, pitching a complete game.
