LINDEN—An effort to move forward with the city’s Texas Main Street application stalled last week, when a disagreement over funding arose.
The City Council had scheduled a vote May 9 on a resolution, application and budget that would be submitted to the Texas Historical Commission.
Prior to the vote, Alderman Ruth Halleck stepped away from the council table and spoke as a citizen. She said that the city would benefit from participation in the Main Street program and encouraged citizen participation in the program.
According to Resolution 03-16, which was placed before council, the city would agree to “commit to a $50,000 annual budget including both salary and initial budget for a new Main Street Manager.” In presenting the resolution, City Administration Bob Swisher explained the need for the budget. “We need $50,000 to get in the game.” According

TxDot announces signal repair

From Staff Reports
BOWIE COUNTY-- Travelers on U.S. 59 heading toward Texarkana this weekend may notice a small delay.
The Texas Department of Transportation will have crews repairing traffic signals at South Lake Drive (US 59) at I-369/Loop 151 Frontage Roads
A wreck early May 13 knocked down a signal light at South Lake Drive and the southbound frontage road of I-369/Loop 151. The signal lights at both frontage roads intersections are flashing red, creating an all-way stop for vehicles.
Due to the extent of the damages and types of repairs needed, the signals will likely remain in the flashing mode until repairs can be completed. This could be one to two weeks. Motorists using these intersections are urged to use caution as drivers become use to the temporary traffic control conditions.
Anyone having any questions about the repair work can call the Texas Department of Transportation Texarkana area office at 903-838-8574 for more information.
