Cass County tops 26K miles in Walk Across Texas program

LINDEN-- On June14, at the Cass County Historical Courthouse, the Walk Across Texas Awards Ceremony was held.
It began with Brian Whatley, Ag/NR Agent, opening it with a prayer. 4-H’er, Lauren Burton, winner of the Intermediate Archery in Genesis Unaided at 4-H State Roundup, said the pledge and John Knapp sang the National Anthem.
County Judge Becky Wilbanks assisted in handing out certificates for participation, most dedicated, most spirited, etc. Doors prizes were donated by Crumps Food Center, Linden Subway, Christus St. Michael Fitness Center of Atlanta, and the Family and Consumer Sciences Program Area Committee. A crowd of about 100 attended the ceremony.

Norma Price dies at age 92

Wife of hardware store founder was an active member of community

A prominent figure in Atlanta passed away Monday afternoon. Norma Price, wife of Price Hardware founder Roy E. Price Sr. died at the age of 92.
The couple was married for 67 years.

Mrs. Price was born in Caddo Parish Feb. 28, 1924. Her father was an oil driller and toolpusher for Magnolia Oil Company. She graduated top of her class at McLeod High School and later worked as an administrative assistant for the Atlanta transportation office, now TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) and for Attorney Tom Coats.

AISD board honors school employees for their service

The Atlanta Independent School District (AISD) Board of Trustees hosted the fourth annual Employee Service Recognition Banquet to honor tenured employees and bid farewell to retirees.
The event was held June 2 at the Atlanta Middle School gymnasium and was well attended.
The festivities began with a greeting from Superintendent Sidney Harrist. He expressed his appreciation to all the staff and teachers, by giving “a thank you for the part each of you played in making Atlanta Schools successful.”
