Fall Festival to be held at Cass County Park Oct. 19

Cass County Park will hold a Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 19, with fun and games beginning at 3 p.m.

Homecoming a boost to local business this week

It is homecoming week for Atlanta and festivities are quickly approaching. Additional revenue for local businesses is an added perk for the celebration. 
One local business that says they will get a boost this week is an established local floral shop. 
Benita’s Atlanta Floral Personal Service & Gifts will make hundreds of mums and other accessories this week for Rabbs fans to show their spirit on the field and in the stands.

Marietta Festival to provide crafts, entertainment Oct. 19

The Marietta Community Association is holding its annual 27th Fall Fun Food Festival on Saturday, Oct. 19. The theme for the Festival is “Autumn Days.” 
Registration for the antique cars show begins at 8 a.m. and the registration for the parade begins at 9 a.m. at the MCA building (Old Marietta School).

Heavyweight Champ to speak at fundraiser in Shelby County

Two-time Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the world, George Foreman, will speak at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at the John D. The early New Colony School

New Colony is a rural community about four miles northeast of Linden in Cass County. The early settlers built a church in 1889. The settlement was a farming community with numerous houses, several businesses and had its own school district. 
Jerry Arnold, of Linden, attended second grade at New Colony School about 1948-49. The school consolidated with Linden around 1951. Comptroller now accepting applications

AUSTIN — Texas Comptroller Susan Combs reminds Texans applications are now being accepted for the 2013-2014 Texas Match the Promise Foundation scholarship awards.

Look Who’s New

Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Moyers of Kilgore announce the birth of their son, Tanner Roy Moyers, on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.
At birth, he weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long.
He is the grandson of Donna Henry and Kyle Henry of Linden, and Kevin and Vonda Moyers of Gladewater.  His great-grandparents are Jerry and Mary Lou Berry and Nanette Henry of Linden, and Bob and Kay Moyers of Gladewater.  His uncle is Traccer Henry of Linden.

Look Who’s New

Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Rowe of N. Berwick, Maine, announce the birth of their son, William Gideon Rowe, on Wednesday, Sept. 18. At birth, he weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and was 21 inches long.
He is the grandson of Linda Anderson of Linden, the late Leon Anderson, Shanda Rowe of Sibley, La., and Steve and Therese Rowe of Bath, Maine.  
His great-grandmother is Jane Rowe of Minden, La, and his great-grandfather is Robert Kimbell of Haughton, La.  
Gideon is also welcomed to the family by Uncle Brad and Aunt Lauri Anderson of Linden, Uncle Collin and Aunt Melanie Anderson and cousins Matthew, Kathryn and Micah of Groesbeck, Texas and Aunt Stephanie Rowe of Ruston, La. and Aunt Anna Rowe of Sibley, La.
