Lions Club hosts contest for pumpkin carving

Linden Lion’s Club announces its first Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest beginning Monday, Oct. 21. The Lion’s Club will have pumpkins for sale at their headquarters, 107 N. Main St., from Oct. 21 through Oct. 27, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. each night. 
They will also be available each Thursday at noon during their regular meeting time. Pre-sales are available. The great songs they sang motivated me to write music. Marietta Festival set for Oct. 19

Wadley, Berry to wed

Mike and Amanda Berry of Linden, and Jonathan and Tammie Nuckels of Atlanta, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their son, Matthew ‘Bud’ Earl Berry to Evan Elizabeth Wadley, daughter of Dr. Byron and Jane Wadley of Longview.

Stubbs visits AES

Cleveland Indians’ professional baseball player, Drew Stubbs, high fives Atlanta Elementary Principal Dianne Whatley and students: Deasiah Alexander, Annemarie Hanner, Reginald Harrison, Jacob Sain and Noah Dowda. The hometown hero visits the campus each year to address the student body and present the school with an autographed bat that is awarded to deserving students at the end of the year. The Drew Stubbs Award began several years ago.  Principal Dianne Whatley and Drew explained that for a student to be eligible for the award they must be a strong academic student, passionate about their sport and display good sportsmanship.

Tyler and Sarah Morton of Paragould, Ark., announce the birth of their daughter, Annabelle Rose Morton, on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013. At birth she weighed 8 pounds and was 20 1/2 inches long.

Atlanta band brings home Grand Champion trophy

The Atlanta High School band walked away from the Northeast Texas Invitational Marching Contest with 5 superior ratings, best AAA band and Grand Champion for the third time in the past six years. School days in the Red Hill Community

The Red Hill School was built in 1911, as stated by Rose Fielder. The Red Hill School District joined Linden in 1955.
Rose went to first grade at Red Hill when there were only four in her class. At one time, there was only one room with eight grades. Sears hometown store named 2013 National Premier Store

The Sears Hometown Store of Atlanta, Texas has been named a 2013 recipient of the honor of “Sears Hometown Premier Store”. This award recognizes Sears Hometown Stores across the country that consistently offers the highest levels of customer service, outstanding store performance and standards.
