Here & There

Nancy Barton and Nan Thompson gave a glowing report of the Gaither Gospel Concert they attended in Longview last Saturday evening. Some members of First Baptist Church Kildare had planned to attend, but the tickets were sold out when they tried to get them.

Our hearts go out to the family of Sandra Denise "Sandy" Whatley. Her parents were Harold and Bette Whatley. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Savannah. It is fitting that her service be held on Valentine’s Day because she was a sweetheart!

This poem reflects the optimistic attitude that my mother always showed. She wrote many poems during her life, but this is one of my favorites.

Don’t forget to love your flowers

Lisa Egner

The Daylily Lady

Valentines’ Day has come and gone and most people remembered the candy. But did you remember the flowers? If you did forget the flowers, now is the time to make amends!

Now is the time to have a test done on your soil. The sample pouches can be found at your local agricultural extension agent office.

The great truth of the small word

By Pastor Bryan Baggett

Pinecrest Baptist Church

Church people often use church words – confusing, long, unused anywhere else except in church. Let me change that in today’s column. I am a church person (obviously!). And this is a church word, found in Romans 8:31-"IF God is for us, who can be against us?" The "if" here is not one of condition or possibility, but one of real fact, more like "since," or "because of." It is on that "if" that so much hangs.

FBC Linden host women’s conference this weekend

First Baptist Church Linden will host its annual Women’s Conference starting at 6 Friday evening, and 8 Saturday morning.

Guest speaker for the Feb. 22-23 event will be Laurie Cole of Houston, a well-known women’s speaker similar to Beth Moore. For more than 25 years, Cole has been a speaker at women’s events and conferences throughout the country and is the author of four Bible studies used by churches and groups in all 50 states and abroad.

Last year, Jackie Stanfield said about 225 women attended the women’s conference and hope more will come this year.

Garrison, Heath unite in double-ring ceremony

Miss Sara Elizabeth Garrison and Mr. Ross Morriss Heath were united in marriage on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Ramage Farm in Hooks. Brother Gene Parker, pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church in Atlanta, officiated the double-ring ceremony. The couple stood before a custom designed archway and picket fence candelabra lavished with orange roses, ranunculus, Bells of Ireland and amaranthus, which was designed by Brian and Jennifer Ogburn of Twisted Vines. The bride descended from a stairway adorned with white lights. At the foot of the stairs were large potted yellow mums provided by Ark-La-Tex Greenhouses, owned by the groom.
