The McLeod High School reunion took place Saturday, Oct. 12. Those attending were excited to catch up and to see the contents of a time capsule unearthed just before the event.
The 6th Annual Frog Jumping Contest, inspired by Mark Twain’s “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”, was held at the junior high on Sept. 27. Eighth grade students in Ms. Paula Fitts’ reading classes spent time learning about Mark Twain and his literary escapades. They also researched the history of storytelling and the values that the art of storytelling plays in our culture. The Linden-Kildare High School Senior Class of 2014 attended the 15th annual Texarkana Chamber of Commerce College and Career Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 16. This event was held on the Texas A&M-Texarkana campus.
Darrellene “Dee” Loeffler and Natash White were named employees of the year for Community Services of Northeast Texas, Inc. (CSNT).
Each year CSNT selects an employee of the year from the Community Services Division and an employee of the year from the Head Start Division that have demonstrated qualities above and beyond their respective job duties.
J.K. Hileman Elementary recently selected the Rising Stars for the month of September. These students were selected based on excellence in attendance, attitude, and academic achievement.
Traffic had to be directed by police and volunteer firemen on Highway 11 in downtown Hughes Springs as hundreds showed up for the premier opening of “The Legacy – An Event Center.” The premier event was held on Oct. 7 at 122 E. First St. The 1880’s Victorian style venue was sponsored by the Hughes Springs Economic Development Corporation.
