LYAA announces mid-year election

 

Linden Youth Athletic Association officials have announced a mid-year special election of board members beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Linden-Kildare Elementary School Cafeteria.

Atlanta Iron ends a great year at regional meet

Atlanta’s Iron powerlifting team has been on top at nearly every meet they attended, or had members of the team that excelled above expectations in only the program’s second year. 
A successful season came to an end in a valiant effort at the Regional Powerlifting Meet in Rusk on Thursday, March 7.

Kick-Start Kids kick it into high gear

Linden-Kildare’s Kick-Start Kids program competed in Dallas on Saturday, March 2, and instructor Jeremy McQuivey said children were well prepared and in top form.
Sophia Wenzel and Jhakyria Jordan placed first in their division, Courtney Givens placed second in her division and third place finishers were Ethan Sherrill, Annmarrie Jones, Kyra McQuivey, Gabe McQuivey, Heather Farmer and Sydnee Robles.
 “We had the second highest student attendance of all the schools at the tournament and nine of our students placed in the top three of their division,” McQuivey said.

Rabbs win, Lady Rabbs second in tourney

Atlanta’s baseball and softball teams fared well in the New Boston McDonald’s Classic Tourney that started on Thursday, March 7, and ended Saturday, March 9. 
The Rabbs finished first after defeating Liberty-Eylau 4-3 in the championship bracket.

Elliott pitches three-hit shutout

After playing a game against Linden-Kildare’s softball team, Daingerfield might want to do some tweaking before their next meeting in April.
On Tuesday, March 5, L-K thumped Daingerfield 23-0 behind pitcher TeAnn Elliott’s three hit shutout. Elliott also struck out six batters out of the 19 she faced.

‘Dawgs lose heartbreaker to Mustangs

Queen City and Hughes Springs renewed their rivalry on Tuesday, March 5, with the Mustangs scoring the winning run in the final inning to pull out a narrow 4-3 victory.
A dominating Queen City team knocked the Mustangs out of last year’s playoffs when Hughes Springs had a very good ballclub of their own. With the UIL realignment, both teams will be playing each other in district for the next few years.

Tigers wallop ‘Cats 11-1

Linden-Kildare played a non-district baseball game against Waskom on Friday, March 8, and came out of the scrap with an 11-1 victory over the Wildcats.
Waskom took an early 1-0 lead, but the Tigers erased that after scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Longhorns crush Avery, 17-1

McLeod started district play on the right foot, after destroying the visiting Avery Bulldogs 17-1 on Tuesday, March 5.
McLeod slammed out 11 hits in the melee, and held the Bulldogs to just three hits all game long.

Bulldogs chosen to All-District squad

District 16-2A All-District basketball selections were made recently, and a handful of Queen City players made the roll. 
Junior Zack Walker was named to the Second Team, and juniors Drew Davenport and Chris Reese along with senior Dylan Copeland were named as honorable mentions.
