The Northeast Texas (N.E.T.) juniors’ volleyball teams participated in the Trinity River Valentine Showdown in Dallas Friday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 16.
The teams are comprised of 12-under and 14-under girls from Atlanta and Hooks, and are coached by Atlanta High School’s head volleyball coach, Dawn Stewart. Stewart is assisted by coaches Regina Latimer, Bailey McDonald and Amber Raines.
The 12-under squad was ranked as the #1 seed overall and went undefeated in pool play, sweeping DJVB of Dallas 25-16, 25-19, 25-21; TNT of Dallas 25-12, 25-13, 25-9 and Texas Image-12 25-13, 25-12.
The championship match was a nip-tuck the whole match. N.E.T. fought off two game-point situations and took game one against a talented Dogwood Tremendous Volleyball Club. In game two, N.E.T. found themselves down 21-23 and 24-23 before fighting back to claim game two and the championship, 26-24.
N.E.T. 14-under also participated in the tournament in their respective bracket, dropping the third place match to Texas Image. N.E.T. 14 is compromised of Atlanta and Hooks players including Atlanta’s Avery Trotter, KeAsia Hicks, Kaylea Moro and Savannah Riddell.
