Linden-Kildare’s varsity boys’ basketball team finished out their season with a 68-63 loss at home against county rival Hughes Springs on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

L-K actually had a jump start on the Mustangs after rolling out to a 17-12 first quarter lead, but Hughes Springs outscored the Tigers 22-17 in the second to knot the score up at 34-34 by halftime.

The third quarter told the tale of the game as Hughes Springs pumped out 24 points to L-K’s six, taking a 58-40 lead into the final frame. The young Tigers’ squad never gave up and chipped away at the lead after outscoring the Ponies 23-10, but simply ran out of time in the game and the season.

Jordan Craver poured in a team leading 20 points, Robbie West added 15, Chance Cogswell 12 and Keith Green had 10 points. West and Green combined for five 3-pointers and 15 points from behind the arc.

Neither team qualified for the playoffs in the finale, but the young Linden-Kildare Tigers fought hard all season long and finished 8-19, 5-9 in District 16-2A under first year head coach Drew Barkley.

Hughes Springs finishes the year at 8-10, 7-7 on the season in one of the toughest 2A districts in the state.
