Taylor enjoys dream job and teaching at AHS

Former Atlanta High School graduate and present AHS golf coach and teacher, Whitney Taylor, can relate on why she chose to become a teacher/coach.

Area schools will be represented at the state meet this weekend

It’s not easy to get to the state level at any high school sport because of the amazing talent we have across our expansive state.

AHS to honor athletes at All Sports Banquet

Atlanta High School will recognize and honor their athletes in all sports during the 
All Sports Banquet at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 12, inside the 
First Baptist Church of Atlanta Family Life Center located on the corners of Baker Street and Mill Street. 
The banquet is sponsored by the Atlanta High School Athletic Booster Club.

Schmid’s wins 1965 Mustang Fastback ‘Best of Show’

David Schmid won Best of Show with his 1965 Mustang Fastback in the Linden Wildflower Trails seventh annual Car Show held April 26 in the First Baptist Church parking lot.
Rodney Love event coordinator said this was the best car show yet with more than 50 participants from all over the area.
Other winners in the different classes were:

1940s - Clay Collins, 1946 Ford
1950s - Mykala Moore, 1957 Chevy Convertible
1960s - Ken Root, 1966 Chevy Nova

Lady Rabbs’ golf finishes up successful season

After winning 16 consecutive district championships, the Lady Rabbs’ golf team strolled into the state finals for the second straight year.
Last season Atlanta placed seventh after the dust had settled with a good mindset that this season would be another good year for the team barring injury.
The ladies’ golf squad earned several first place victories at competition meets this season with good numbers and great finishes, and even claimed second at regionals for the second consecutive year.

Rabbits miss out on state playoffs by two runs

Atlanta finished up a great baseball campaign recently, but had to go one game over their regular season schedule to try and seal up the fourth place spot with Paris.
Atlanta split the season series with Paris at 1-1 but the Wildcats scored one more run than the Rabbs in a 4-3 victory at Texas High Field to advance on in the 3A state playoffs.

AHS girls’ golf team wins 16th consecutive district title

The Atlanta High School girls’ golf team gave a whole new meaning to the phrase “Sweet 16”.
On April 7, the Lady Rabbs brought home their 16th consecutive district title and did so in fine fashion by beating out the runner-up by a whopping 107 strokes.
Head Coach Whitney Taylor was elated at the feat.
“For anyone trying to do the math, the winning streak started in 1998 and has not stopped since. We are thinking this has to be some sort of record,” Taylor beamed. “These ladies have worked their bottoms off trying to prepare for this season and their hard work is paying off.”
Coach Taylor talked about how the girls approached the pursuit of their 16th straight title.

QC girls’ golf places 2nd at district

The Queen City High School girls’ golf team placed second at the 19-AA district golf tournament on April 7, at Oak grove Country Club in New Boston.
Shelby Hudson finished second overall and Katy Holmes placed sixth.

Henry’s five RBIs fuel Bulldogs’ 14-2 win

Queen City hosted Paul Pewitt in district action on April 4, and the Brahmas left town with a 14-2 loss in a five inning affair.
Pewitt surprised the Bulldogs by scoring a run in the top of the first, but QC scored 14 runs in the next three innings to put the game on ice.
QC’s scoring began in the bottom of the second when Chase Norman reached first base after being hit by a pitch and scored after singles by Kendal Griffin and Davis Dupree.
Dalton Wright lined a drive to Pewitt’s left fielder, which dropped the ball, and the Bulldogs had the bases loaded.

Bulldogs pull away from L-K, wins 6-3

Queen City hosted county rival Linden-Kildare on a beautiful Friday evening, and things got better for the ’Dawgs as they defeated the Tigers 6-3.
The game was scoreless until QC scored three runs in the fourth inning.
Chase Norman led off the fourth with a single and his courtesy runner, Ray Cook, was moved to third on a single to left field by Kendal Griffin.
Kolton Morgan singled home Cook for a 1-0 lead and the Bulldogs went up 3-0 after Griffin was balked home from third base and Morgan made his way from second to home on two passed balls.
