Junior varsity Rabbs defeat Pleasant Grove

The Atlanta Rabbits JV baseball team beat Pleasant Grove 6-1 in the opening game of the Texas High Tournament last week. 
Davis Flint got the win on the mound for the Rabbits, pitching four innings and only allowing one unearned run on three hits. 
Christian Oliver and Clayton Jaynes led the Rabbs offensively, each of them contributing a double and two singles apiece while having two RBIs each. 
Teammates Carson Lambert and Layton Henson both contributed two hits each for the Rabbs.

AMS track competes at Liberty-Eylau

Atlanta Middle School track teams competed at the Liberty-Eylau relays last week.
The seventh grade 400m relay team of Shun Hunter, Jawan King, DeAngelo Coleman and Andrew Samples placed first with a total time of 50.2, Clayton Mosley and Cameron Kendrick finished 5-6 in the 100m hurdles with times of 20.2 and 20.7 respectively and the 1600m relay team of Mosley, Jacob Nash, Chase Haskins and Cade Rosser placed third at 4:23.

KickStart Kids Tournament hosted by Linden-Kildare

Linden-Kildare’s KickStart program hosted a tournament at Mae Luster Stephens Junior High School on March 1.
KickStart instructor, Jeremy McQuivey, oversaw several of his students as they took part in the martial arts competition.
The program is in its second year and has gained a lot of recognition area wide.

Bulldogs lose close game to Patriots

Queen City took to the road on March 7, to take on Prairiland in a non-district contest.
Last season the ’Dawgs made short work of the Patriots in the first round of the playoffs.
In this matchup the Bulldogs had a slight lead going into the bottom of the fifth before the Pats scored six runs in that frame and eventually took a 6-5 decision over QC.

Linden-Kildare hosts 18th annual Bill Hines Relays

The Linden-Kildare Tigers hosted the 18th annual Bill Hines Relays on March 6, and the competition was stiff across the board. 
For the varsity girls, senior Shardai Love highlighted the day after she placed second in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and first in the triple jump.  
Montana Caldwell placed sixth in the 3200m run at 14:33.84, the 4x100m relay team of Love, Arriana Evans, Shenari Green and Alyssa Bynum placed fourth at 54.57 and Alyssa Cummings placed fifth in the 800m run at 2:43.83, but rebounded later for a second place finish in the 1600m run at 6:20.66.

Queen City powerlifters pull their weight to regionals

On Feb. 22, the Queen City powerlifting teams competed in the White Oak Powerlifting Meet at White Oak High School.  
This was a last chance qualifying meet for athletes in the region to qualify to advance to the regional powerlifting meet.  
Eleven boys and seven girls were able to take third place in each division, and several members of the QC team qualified for the regional meet.  
Sam Clements represented QC for the ladies while the boys sent four qualifiers and two alternates.

UIL realignment districts change after football season

The UIL here in Texas makes district changes every two years to athletic programs across the state.
Most big schools with plenty of students get to enjoy short bus rides to ball games while the smaller schools are often paired with opponents miles away.

Bloomburg ISD Jump Rope for Heart recognized

Bloomburg ISD recently held a cook out on campus in appreciation of their staff and the servers of the fine meal were recognizable faces.

Annual Cass County Buck Pot winners awarded

Another successful Ronnie Burns’ Big Buck Pot Contest is in the books after winners were awarded by Cass County Texas Park and Wildlife officers at Jaynes Farm and Feed store in Linden on Jan. 11.

All up to you voters...no pressure

Sitting across a bowl of salsa and chips from some of the county’s more prominent political figures I had a good dose of the concerns surrounding the county judge race Monday night.
It was during the Cass County Patriots meeting at Amigo Juan’s Restaraunt.
