East Texas Tumblers hold 8th annual cheer camp

Becky McClure, owner and operator of East Texas Tumblers in downtown Atlanta, recently held her 8th annual Cheer Camp with more than 40 participants taking part in the event.
The name for this year’s event was the Alumni Cheer Camp because one of her former students, Lyndy Raley, was able to come in again to help out with the camp.

Nothing short of remarkable is the Paralympic Games held every four years parallel to the Olympic Summer Games.

Cass County Bank Rebels blaze championship trail

The Cass County Bank Rebels entered the 54-team Omaha Tournament and left town with the championship after compiling an 8-0 record. Head Coach Deray Cook holds the plaque surrounded by some of the best players from Northeast Texas and Assistant Coach Jeff Teague.

The Cass County Bank Rebels relocated from under the American Legion label and are now playing college teams and tough select teams.
Although the competition has been stiffer this season the Rebels, under Head Coach Deray Cook, have left their mark on several tourneys and games around the country.

Each year a group of junior high players from this area attend a volleyball camp held at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark.
This year nine student athletes from Queen City attended the camp and a few of them brought home superlative awards.

Lady Rabbs softball team, coaching staff honored

Atlanta’s softball team was just a few wins from the state tournament this season and the long road to get there was paved with the blood, sweat and tears of the young team’s effort.
The Lady Rabbs displayed athleticism that few teams are able to possess and went toe-to-toe with some of the best teams in Class 3A.

Queen City boasted a few 16-2A All-District honors for this season.
Kelsie Benson was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Alexa Oestmann was named a First Team Second Baseman,  Maci Stringer was named a First Team Outfielder, Alyssa Wiley was named to the Second Team Outfield and Kailyn Lansford was selected as a Utility Player.

Harper to be inducted into PVILCA Hall of Fame

Former outstanding Fairview High School football player, Johnny Harper, will be inducted into the PVILCA Hall of Fame on Saturday, July 19, in San Antonio.

Linden-Kildare resident, Johnny Harper, will be inducted into the Prairie View Interscholastic Coaches Association (PVILCA) Hall of Fame at the 35th annual Hall of Fame Awards and Hall of Honor Banquet beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, inside of the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk Hotel located at 123 Losoya Street in San Antonio.
