Tigers’ playoff run ends with early morning loss

In what turned out to be a wild game for the Tigers, played over the span of two days, Linden-Kildare’s (12-8) baseball season ended with a 5-3 loss to Edgewood (25-4) in the Area round.

Heavy rains that came in during the evening of May 14 would have cancelled many a game, but as this was a playoff game officials decided to wait out the wind and rain for 2 hours and 35 minutes.

AHS honors athletes at All Sports Banquet

Atlanta ISD hosted their annual All Sports Banquet on Monday, May 11, at the First Baptist Church - Family Life Center to acknowledge their student athletes for hard work and dedication in various school sports.
Rabbit Athletic Director and head football coach Matt McClure opened the ceremony by speaking about the integrity and hard work that all Atlanta athletes carry into each and every sport in which they participated.

Rabbs end season with loss to Bullard Panthers

The Rabbs battled through a tough district schedule to make the playoffs this season but what may have worked against them in the playoff picture was the weather, which has played a factor in most of the spring sports schedules.
 The Rabbs played Bullard in the first round of the playoffs in a series originally set in Longview but with stormy weather wreaking havoc south of this area many playoff games were moved to this area.

Chelsea Ivy named GAC Player of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southern Arkansas senior second baseman Chelsea Ivy has been named as the Great American Conference Player of the Week for the final week of the 2015 regular season as it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Former Lady Bulldog Kelsie Benson lifts LeTourneau with walk-off

It took seven pitches but it was the seventh and final one that LeTourneau University freshman catcher Kelsie Benson hit into the gap in right-center field to score Courtney Matulis from second for a 3-2 win over Concordia on Sunday.
The YellowJackets (17-20, 11-17 ASC) with the win secured a spot in the upcoming American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament for a second-straight season.

Bergt takes top spot in Wildflower Trails 5K run

Atlanta’s Nicholas Bergt turned in the best time of the day, with an 18.44 to pace the field at the annual Wildflower Trails 5K run, held April 25.
Floyd Galiano finished in second with a 20:48. Micah Harp placed third with a 21:12.

Area Track Coverage

Last week local track athletes from Atlanta, Queen City, Bloomburg and McLeod all had members advance to the regional round in their respective classes.

Atlanta’s boys’ team came in fourth as a group in a tough, crowded board of teams from District 15 and 16-4A which included the Rabbs’ district foes plus Gilmer, Bullard, Gladewater, Tyler Chapel Hill, Spring Hill and Kilgore.

Linden-Kildare’s tennis program enjoys successful year

Spring sports had a little trouble getting off the ground this season due to inclement weather but once it got rolling Linden-Kildare’s tennis program turned in one of the most successful years in recent memory.
An overview of the season included Lane Burleson placing second in boys’ singles at the Ore City tourney on Feb. 26 and teammates Ricardo Campos and Call Stancil winning consolation in boys’ doubles.
