Atlanta track programs excel against bigger opponents

The Atlanta varsity boys’ and varsity girls’ track teams traveled to Lufkin on March 24, to compete at the Willie Ross Relays. 
The varsity boys topped several 5A and 6A schools en route to a championship, and the girls nearly equaled that but still took second place over several top-notch schools.

Eight Longhorns earn 16-2A All-District superlatives

McLeod’s varsity boys’ basketball team plowed into the playoffs this year by finishing second in District 16-2A, and earned a bi-district crown by defeating Detroit in the first round of the playoffs.

QC falls to Tigers 4-3 on walk-off

Queen City visited rival Linden-Kildare on March 25, and played another barnburner as the Tigers escaped with a 4-3 win on a walk-off single.
The Tigers plated three runs in the second inning but a big 2-run double by Jaeger Jaynes closed the gap to 3-2.

Lady Bulldogs dominate L-K 16-0

Queen City visited county rival Linden-Kildare on March 25, and left town with a 16-0 win after four innings.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 10 runs in the first inning and scored the other six over the next three innings.

Seven Bulldog basketball players make All-District list

Another basketball season is in the books quicker than should have been with the way time has been flying by us all.
With the season coming to a close the 16-3A All-District list was released recently and a combination of seven Queen City Bulldogs/Lady Bulldogs made the honorable list.

Atlanta Track
Atlanta hosted the Atlanta Lions Club/Gordon Pynes/ Runnin’ Rabbs Relays a few days later than originally scheduled due to heavy rainfall which swept across the area most of last week.
The meet was rescheduled for Mar. 14, with no field events but there was still plenty of action.

L-K battles district foes on the baseball, softball field

Linden-Kildare’s baseball and softball team has been in the swing of district play for a few games now. The young softball program is still working to find its identity and the baseball team has put together some impressive play despite the outcome.

Senior Ebony Castleberry makes state appearance

There’s the old adage “third time’s a charm”, but in the case of senior powerlifter Ebony Castleberry the first time was just right.
Ebony traveled with Linden-Kildare powerlifting coach Gary Parrish to Corpus Christi for a shot at a gold medal in the 3A State Powerlifting Meet on March 18. Asking Ebony how she felt about making the big stage in her first year try the answer was easy for her say.

QC powerlifting programs place first at Detroit

Queen City’s powerlifting teams traveled to Detroit on Jan. 30, and left town with first place plaques.
Celeste Fortune placed first in her respective weight class with a total lift of 975 pounds, KyLee Fincher placed first in her weight class with a total lift of 515 pounds, Jacey Griggs placed second with a total lift of 400 pounds, Maggie Clark placed first with a total lift of 605 pounds and Alyssa Clements placed first with a total lift of 575 pounds.
Both Celeste and Alyssa earned the Outstanding Lifter Award for their great performances.
Bradley Norton placed first in his weight division for the guys with a total of 750 pounds, Ryan Fincher placed first with a total lift of 875 pounds, Curtis Griggs placed first with a total lift of 1,225 pounds and Tracy Craig placed first with a total lift of 1,000 pounds.
