New construction in works at airport

The Atlanta City Council approved the assignment of additional funding to construct additional airport hangers and concrete taxi-ways at Hall Miller Airport during their most recent council meeting. 
The project will build another six to eight  hangers at the local airport. 
In conjunction with Texas Department of Transportation, the city will be responsible for just 10 percent of the estimated $105,000 project.

State PUCT approves SWEPCO rate increase

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) has approved a base rate increase for Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) despite little to no local support.
In Texas, the bill for a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) will increase approximately $7 per month, or 8.9 percent. The PUCT approved this increase in base rates. Durhams recall the day of Kennedy’s assassination

Fifty years later, Bob and Loreta Durham of Linden recall the day of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Last week with all of the news coverage Bob began to recall to his wife Loreta the day Kennedy was assassinated on Friday, Nov. 22, 1963. 
At the time they were living in the Oak Cliff addition located in southwest Dallas and Bob was working at Combine American Insurance on Oaklawn Avenue about two blocks from Turtle Creek Boulevard where the motorcade was traveling with Kennedy from Love Field.

Resolution affirms support for IP

Cass County Commissioners signed a resolution Monday affirming the county’s support of International Paper (IP) Company’s Texas Enterprise Project application to the state of Texas.
The resolution is to continue an order passed on Nov. 10, 2008, electing to participate in the Texas Enterprise Zone Program. 
The resolution States the county finds IP meets the criteria for designation as a Triple Jumbo enterprise project.

To partner with the  Cass County Child Protective Services board of directors and Citizens Journal in the annual Christmas Wish List  project, please call the Citizen Journal office at 903-796-7133 or stop by 306 W. Main in Atlanta to leave your name and phone number beside the number of the child you wish to “adopt” for this special project.
Unwrapped gifts must be returned to the Citizen Journal office by Wednesday, Dec. 11, with the number of the child attached to it. Most gifts are $30 and under and there is no limit on the number of children who can be adopted.

Trustees sworn into office for Linden-Kildare CISD

Three board of trustees were sworn into office during the Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) meeting held Nov. 11. Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Barbara McMillon administered the oath of office to trustees Robby Johnson, Curtis Harrison Jr. and Tracy Spaniol. Each will serve an additional term.
Trustees elected to reappoint officers to their same positions. Kay Stephens was reappointed as president, Curtis Harrison Jr. was reappointed as vice president and Tracy Spaniol was reappointed as secretary. Parents speak out about bullying

Two parents addressed trustees in open forum concerning bullying in the Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District school district specifically at the junior high during a regular school board meeting held on Nov. 11.

City Hall moves into the 21 century

Residents took advantage of an opportunity to see how their tax dollars were spent as they toured the newly renovated Linden City Hall last Thursday evening.

Emergency crews free woman from wreckage Sunday night

Driver loses control on US 59, plows into signal pole

A women had to be pryed from her car Sunday night after her car struck a signal light pole head on.

County awards food supplies bid for 2nd time

Cass County Commissioners had to return to the drawing board, so to say, when it came to awarding a bid for food supplies for the Cass County Jail Division for FY, 2014.
