Local officials attend symposium

Precinct 3 Cass County Commissioner Paul Cothren  and Cass County Treasurer Donna Early were among almost 200 Texas county government officials Oct. 27-29, to learn the latest on how to improve workplace safety, boost employee productivity and protect county government buildings and computer systems from threats. Historical Commissioners serve to preserve the past

A short ceremony was held on Oct. 29 to issue the oath of office to the current Cass County Historical Commission directors. 
Cass County Judges Charles McMichael led the ceremony and asked those present to solemnly swear to uphold the duties of the commission. Candidate filings begin Saturday for county offices

Candidates filing for the March primary election starts Saturday, Nov. 9. Several offices in Cass County are up for re-election. Some of the elected officials have said they are stepping down after fulfilling their term.
These are the offices that are up for election: County Court at Law Judge, County Judge, County Clerk, District Clerk, Commissioners for Precinct 2 and 4, all Justice of the Peace Offices, District Attorney and County Treasurer. Man airlifted after crashing near Atlanta Business Park

One person was airlifted to LSU Medical Center following an accident Saturday night. 
The man was severely injured when his white Chevrolet Trailblazer veered off the road and struck a concrete culvert just in front of the Atlanta Business Park on US 59.

Linden celebrates Municipal Court Week

The second floor courtroom was full on Monday with guests in attendance to celebrate Municipal Court Week Nov. 4 – Nov. 8.

Pertussis reported at Queen City ISD

The Queen City Independent School District (ISD) administration sent out a letter this week to inform parents that a case of pertussis or “whooping cough” had been reported in their district. 
The illness is classified as an airborne bacterial infection that can spread through coughing. 
Whooping cough is very contagious and can cause serious illness - especially in babies too young to be fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Students transported following bus wreck

A Linden-Kildare CISD school bus was involved in an accident Thursday afternoon while transporting students after school.

BISD opts to build new weight room

The Bloomburg Independent School District Board of Trustees approved funding for a new weight room facility and equipment storage for its athletic programs during their last board meeting Oct. 21.
The trustees took action to appropriate $40,000 to build a 30 x 60 foot weight room. A concrete pad already exists for the equipment storage facility. Funding for the 20 x 50 foot storage facility for equipment is included in the $40,000 appropriated.
