Contract awarded for grant

Commissioners awarded a contract on Monday to Grantworks to provide administrative consultant services and professional engineering services for the 2013 Texas Community Development Block Grant Community Development Fund.
Commissioners also signed a resolution authorizing the county judge to execute contractual documents between the Texas Department of Agriculture and the city for the 2013 Texas Community Development Block Grant Program awarded to provide street improvements.

Area property owner receives request for unnecessary service

The Cass County Appraisal District has been contacted by a property owner about a service that the chief appraiser says is unnecessary.
Cass County Chief Appraiser LeAnn Lee said the form property owners are receiving is for “Designation of Homestead” from Homestead Recording Service.
“This in another service that is not necessary,” Lee stated. “They wanted $35 to do this.  If you call the phone number they do disclose that this is “different” than the Homestead exemption that you apply for at the Appraisal District (and is free).”

Most wanted suspect apprehended after high speed chase

A man wanted for theft of material in Cass County was arrested Monday, but not before a high speed chase and crash in McLeod.
Barry Wright was taken into custody Monday, having suffered non-lifethreatening injuries.
Deputy Josh Bailey was on patrol on F.M. 125 at 2:40 a.m. when he spotted a motorcycle fail to use a turn signal as he turned right onto that road. When Deputy Bailey sped up to check the license plate on the motorcycle, the driver sped up as well. Concerned citizen aids in Dunn’s arrest

A Longview man was arrested Sunday afternoon in Linden following a tip from a concerned citizen who called police after receiving an Amber Alert.
Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe said a concerned citizen called the Cass County Sheriff’s Department after she received an Amber Alert and realized the vehicle they were searching for was in front of her on Highway 59 heading south near the roadside park. Center to reduce meals served in December

On Monday Senior Citizens Services reduced the number of days meals will be served at the Senior Citizen Center to just three days a week for the month of December.
Site Manager Diane Pierce said she received word on Nov. 25 that meals would be suspended on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the month of December. Officers secure Domino City Hall Tuesday night

Charges are pending investigation following an explosion of allegations presented at the latest Domino City Council meeting.
Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office secured the city hall in Domino Tuesday night after an altercation took place between Mayor Al Campbell and members of the city’s government, former employees and citizens.

Gutsch named as lone finalist announced at Queen City ISD

The Queen City Independent School District (ISD) has named Angela Gutsch as the lone finalist for the position of superintendent.
