Cass County tops 26K miles in Walk Across Texas program
LINDEN-- On June14, at the Cass County Historical Courthouse, the Walk Across Texas Awards Ceremony was held.
It began with Brian Whatley, Ag/NR Agent, opening it with a prayer. 4-H’er, Lauren Burton, winner of the Intermediate Archery in Genesis Unaided at 4-H State Roundup, said the pledge and John Knapp sang the National Anthem.
County Judge Becky Wilbanks assisted in handing out certificates for participation, most dedicated, most spirited, etc. Doors prizes were donated by Crumps Food Center, Linden Subway, Christus St. Michael Fitness Center of Atlanta, and the Family and Consumer Sciences Program Area Committee. A crowd of about 100 attended the ceremony.
Walk Across Texas is a free eight-week program designed to encourage the development/enhancement of physical activity. It is facilitated by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Each team has up to eight participants who set a goal to to walk the 832 miles across Texas with each team member walking about 104 miles over the eight-week span.
This spring 212 people participated on 28 teams. As a whole Cass County walked more than 26,000 miles over the eight-week period.
