Tritt plays MCT

Travis Tritt performs his two hours acoustic set to an enthusiastic crowd Saturday night at Music City Texas Theater. His set included several hits, new material and paid tribute to his ‘father figures’ Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. Two guitars autographed by Travis Tritt were auctioned off before the evenings show.

John Tyler Band to march in MLK Community Parade

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Parade Club will host John Tyler Blue Bird Marching Band at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in downtown Linden. This year’s grand marshal is District Clerk Becky Wilbanks who is running for Cass County Judge against Republican opponents George Fite and Joe Harrison. Teen U Gold Award Project

Lessons learned after high school generally don’t include how to balance their checkbook, ward off criminals or keep up with their schedule. One local teen is endeavoring to change that. Texana Bank grows strong as it marks its 100th anniversary

Last week marked the 100th anniversary since Texana Bank opened for business in 1914 as First National Bank of Linden.
Texana Bank, N.A. was organized in Linden, Texas on Nov. 23, 1913 and opened for business on Jan. 20, 1914. The original building was located at 104 S. Main St. where the Linden City Hall is currently located. 
The bank moved to its current location at 124 E. Rush St. in 1971. The drive thru was located on the west side of the building. Julia Beers to perform at Jan. 31 fundraiser in Linden

The Academy of Texas Music will present Julia Beers in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at the Texas Music Barn, 301 E. Houston St. in Linden. 
The show is a fundraiser for the Barn’s ADA compliant entrance ramp.
Since opening, the Texas Music Barn has struggled with accomodating physically challenged visitors to see shows. The famous steps in front of the ‘old Methodist church,’ which is now the Barn, have intimidated many and prevented others from entering the building. Giesler Dentistry opens location in Linden

Giesler Family Dentistry announced last week it is expanding operations and has opened a location in Linden. They recently purchased Dr. Minors practice after it closed in Linden.

Shopping cart safety concerns for parents

Texas News Service - They may keep your eggs safe, but shopping carts are a major source of injuries for children in the U.S., according to a new study. Over the last 20 years, more than 500,000 kids were treated in emergency rooms for injuries from shopping cart use, including falls and entrapment. Some were due to the behavior of parents or children, but there also are flaws in shopping cart design, says Dr. Gary Smith, director, Center for Injury Research and Policy, Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Nearing 40 years as a beauty operator in Linden

Linda Lumpkin grew up in Linden and has always worked there. She worked at a garment factory in Atlanta for a short time and decided to go to beauty school. Her mother went to beauty school at the same time. Her mother worked till age 65 and they worked together for 15 years. 
Changes in hair styles have gone from the range of teasing, bouffant to hair pieces. Often the hair piece was set and later the client would be in to have it put in the hair.
