Exposition, conference slated for Feb. 6 in Texarkana, Ark.

The Bowie County, Texas, and Miller County, Arkansas, Extension offices will be hosting the 2014 Four States Agricultural Exposition and Conference on Thursday, Feb. 6. The conference, held at the Four States Fairgrounds in Texarkana, Arkansas (3700 East 50th Street), is the largest gathering of farmers and ranchers in the four states area. 
The conference begins with registration at 8 a.m. followed by concurrent sessions at 8:30 a.m. The conference will conclude around 3:30 p.m. Lunch is provided to attendees.

Grammy nominee to visit MCT April 15

Rodney Crowell has been a man on fire of late. Peacock portrays ancestor

Math-A-Thon to help kids battling cancer

A total of 36 students at Linden-Kildare Elementary recently participated in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® Math-A-Thon program and raised $2,444.15, to help children battling cancer and other deadly diseases.

The Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce (AACOC) hosted a Meet and Greet event Friday to introduce Miranda Johnson, the new Chamber President to the community.  A number of local leaders and chamber members attended the event. 
Johnson says that there are some exciting things coming to the local area in the next year or two. She plans, with the help of the chamber’s board of directors to put on new events that will hopefully draw visitors to Atlanta from around the region.

Students of the Month named at L-K Elementary

Officials recently announced Students of the Month for January at Linden-Kildare Elementary School and Head Start. A student from each grade was selected based on their character. The students are Mariyah Franklin, Brayson Dalrymple, Jeneefer Prak, Drew Mason, Asher Wells, Hannah Wall, Jessica Sutton, Christian Clark and Christopher Palmer.

FSA urges farmers, ranchers to vote in committee elections

WASHINGTON— USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Juan M. Garcia announced that the FSA County Committee Elections started on Dec. 20, with the mailing of ballots to eligible voters. The deadline to return the ballots to local FSA offices is Jan. 17, 2014.
Producers have been instructed to destroy the FSA County Committee Election ballots (FSA-669’s) mailed on Nov. 4. The new ballots mailed to producers will have the word “corrected” printed on the outside of the mailing, the ballot itself, and the return envelope. Producers must complete and return the corrected FSA-669 to have their vote counted. Casting call for new comedy at Jefferson’s Opera House

Jefferson’s Opera House Theatre Players will hold try outs for a new comedy to be produced in late March or early April, “Mama Won’t Fly” by the well known writing trio Jones, Hope and Wooten.
