Annual Linden Wildflower Trails Festival just around the corner

Mark the calendar on April 25-26, for the 44th Annual Linden Wildflower Trails of Texas Festival, an event that occurs on the last full weekend of April each year. 
Starting off with the Little Miss Wildflower Trails Pageant (WFTPageant@gmail.com) on April 5, the festival promises flowers, fun, food, arts and crafts and entertainment to suit every taste.

Celebrating Girl Scout Week

Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Ga. founded Girl Scouts on March 12, 1912. The first Girl Scout was Juliette’s niece, Daisy Gordon, and the first troop consisted of 12 girls. Now, every year the week containing March 12 is proclaimed Girl Scout Week. 
Girl Scouting consists of six age levels: Daisies - kindergarten and first grade; Brownies - 2nd and 3rd grades; Juniors - 4th and 5th grades; Cadettes - 6th and 8th grades; Seniors - 9th and 10th grades, and Ambassadors 11th and 12th grades. Ketchum to perform at MCT

MCT is excited to announce Hal Ketchum is touring again and will return to Linden April 5.
At age 17, the singer/songwriter moved from upstate New York to Texas, where he quickly began to hone his songwriting skills playing at the now-famous Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas.

Rodeo Roundup

Kynleigh Adcock and Caroline Denson dance the Funky chicken at the First United Methodist Church Day School Rodeo Roundup day on Friday, March 7th. Children from the preschool were able to take part in games such as pin the tail on the donkey and stick horse barrel racing with help from their parents along with Atlanta Middle School  students.

AMS students make 2014-2015 cheer squads

Eighteen young ladies have been named to Atlanta Middle School’s 2014-2015 cheer squads sponsored by Heather Thomason and Ashton McKeever. 
Seventh grade girls making the list were, Sharmranique McCauley, Hannah Highland, Kaylee Strawn, Emmie Rushing, Khadijah Jones (mascot), Daniela Arredondo, India Cooper, Jaiden Stroman and Madelynn Howard.
Eighth grade girls making the cut were, Natalie Foster, Abby Allen, Hannah Wicks, Halli Herring, Teranesha Delasbour, Jasmine Rigdon, Gabby Self, Mallorie McClure and Rebecca Rinehart.

Atlanta Animal League

Dixie is 5 months-old. She is crate and leash trained, potty trained, and is “30 pounds of love.” She is an inside dog, but loves to play outside. Dixie loves all dogs and people, especially kids. She will sit for treats and minds well, her caregivers said. She is a plott hound mix with beautiful brindle colors. The Atlanta Animal League looks forward to finding  just the right home for this special pup. To adopt Dixie, contact the Atlanta Animal League.

Washington, Best set April 12 wedding date

Amy and Curtis Whatley, of Linden, announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelsey Lauren Washington, to John Hamilton Best, son of Sue and John Best of Jefferson.
The future bride is the daughter of the late Andy Washington. She is also the granddaughter of Alice Wilson of Atlanta and the late John Wilson, Stella and Milton Washington of Linden and Jerry Don and Nelva Whatley of Atlanta. 
She is employed with the White-Shaver Law Firm in Tyler.
The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Hammie and Louise Best and the late Jack and Evelyn Powell. 
He received a degree in kinesiology from University of Texas at Tyler and is employed with Arctic Slope Regional Corporation in Kuparuk, Alaska.
The wedding is set for Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. at Tankersley Gardens in Mt. Pleasant. All friends and family are invited to attend.

TxDOT offers scholarship for Texas high school students

AUSTIN - Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Don’t mess with Texas program are encouraging high school students across the state to share their litter prevention accomplishments. 
In an effort to promote positive litter habits among young Texans, the organizations partnered to announce the 11th annual Don’t mess with Texas Scholarship contest.

LK DECA students advance to international competition

Twenty-one Linden-Kildare DECA students were among 3,000 Texas DECA competitors at the state competition held Feb. 20 – 22 in Dallas.
