Students recognized for the month of April

Officials recently announced Students of the Month for April at Linden-Kildare Elementary School and Head Start. A student from each grade was selected for their good character. The students are Kanyla Epps, Jessie Golightly, DaToddrick Webster, Austin Ashlock, Camille Reyes, Kirsten Burton, Edwin Padilla, Vincent Peters and Hannah Bell. Little Miss Wildflower Trails of Texas Pageant winners were crowned Saturday in the Nelson-Murphy Auditorium at Linden-Kildare High School. Results with photos of winners will run in next week’s issue of The Cass County Sun. Contestants pullout all the stops to woo the judges.

Cypress Valley A&M Club to award scholarship for 2013-14 school year

The Cypress Valley A&M Club is currently accepting scholarship applications to be awarded for the 2013-14 school year.
A $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually by the Cypress Valley A&M Club – $500 in the fall and $500 in the spring – to a deserving student from this area. Celebrating 100th

Merle Opal McCain was feted with a birthday celebration Friday, March 1, in honor of her 100th birthday. She was surprised with a luncheon and cake by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren at the home of her son. Some of the attendees journeyed from as far as Colorado and North Carolina for the festivities.

Whooping Crane watch gets under way

Heralding an early start to spring, whooping cranes began breaking camp at wintering grounds in Texas sooner than usual and are making their way back north.
