Retired school employees promote education

 

Education is important to the members of Cass County Retired School Employees Association.
As former educators and employees in area school systems, they have set goals to work for equal pay for retired and active teachers, provide scholarships for two graduating seniors for Linden-Kildare High School and to encourage children to read by giving them a book of their own.

Volunteers make T-Bone Walker festival possible

 

T-Bone Walker Blues Fest volunteers make sure the only blues you’ll feel is in the music.
More than 100 volunteers work the Blues fest every year and pour their hearts and souls into this two-day event to ensure ever one attending, from the ticketholders to the sponsors to the artists, leave with a feeling of “coming home.” 
The 8th Annual T-Bone Walker Blues Fest, set for Friday and Saturday, June 21-22, is a two-day celebration of the Blues that will brings music lovers together in this birthplace of musical giants. T-Bone Walker’s daughter has attended every year and said she is always amazed at the quality of music being played live on two stages. CCCRA promotes the sport of rodeo

The Cass County Championship Rodeo Association (CCCRA) was formed in 2001 by a group of volunteers to encourage the sport of rodeo in Cass County. CCCRA is a 501c3 non-profit organization. 
Each year the association gives a scholarship to one graduating senior at each of the seven high schools in Cass County. CCCRA’s goal is to increase the scholarship amount for each recipient to help pay for their higher education. Big Bird volunteers support St Jude

Fifteen years ago, a group of friends and family of Brad “Big Bird” Harris came together to raise money for cancer research. This gathering has grown into a major fund-raising event – The Big Bird Crawfish Boil, which is held on the third Saturday of May each year. Developments in medicine can help keep communities safer

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), meth use is on the rise -- 439,000 Americans ages 12 and older abused the drug in 2011.
