Community-Wide Gospel Show slated at MCT Theater

Choruses of praise will raise the rafters at Music City Texas Theater Saturday evening when area singers gather for the 5th Annual Community-Wide Gospel Show.

BLAST students meet drug dog

Cass County Deputy Sheriff Ricky Lewis and his canine partner, Crank, visited with Atlanta Middle School fifth grade BLAST (Being Lifelong Achiever Starts Today) students last Tuesday after school.
According to instructor Diane Jackson, the students were studying service animals and their duties.

Moore named Conservation Teacher of the Year

Ann Moore has won the Conservation Teacher of the year in Area 4 in the 35th annual Texas Conservation Awards Program. Moore was nominated by the local Marion-Cass Soil and Water Conservation District representative, Pearlee Wells.

Students compete in Linden Wildflower Trails Art Show

Kaitlin Fannin of Queen City High School won Best of Show honors in the 2013 Wildflower Trails Art Show in Linden. This is the second year she has won Best of Show in the student division of the art show.
There were 76 student entries from four high schools including Queen City High School (QCHS), Atlanta High School (AHS), Linden-Kildare High School (L-KHS) and one from Byrd High School in Shreveport.

Five girls to vie for crown in May 4 event

The 2013 Little Miss Fine Arts Revue will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center located at the corner of Johns and Allday streets in Atlanta.
During the event, Ariana Jene White, 2012 Little Miss Fine Arts, will relinquish her crown to one of the five contestants in the pageant.

Camp Invention will reinvent summer camp in QC

Invent Now, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and fostering invention and creativity, is pleased to announce that its nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention summer program is returning to Queen City for 2013.
Camp Invention is a weeklong summer day program for children entering grades one through six, created in partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

New eligibility rule in effect for farm license plates

Cass County residents will now need to provide proof of eligibility at the Cass County Tax-Assessor Collector’s office in order to obtain farm license plates which have a reduced registration fee.
“We want all vehicles on the road to be properly registered,” said Becky Watson, the tax assessor-collector for Cass County. “While this rule requires an additional step for farm vehicle owners, it is important to ensure that only eligible farm vehicles pay the reduced fee.”

Unstuff the Truck is May 4

Local Girl Scouts will host an Unstuff the Truck event from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4. The event will be held in downtown Atlanta at the corner of East Main and Williams streets, next to Subway. The Unstuff the Truck event is to offer the public a last chance to purchase Girl Scout Cookies in 2013.

The Business and Professional Women’s Club met April 8, at the Pleasant Hill School. 
The meeting was called to order by B&P Women’s Club President Vernelle Richardson at noon.
