Burson claims win in 4H competition held in Commerce

 

Claire Burson, age 13, home school student of Avinger, won 1st place in 4H District IV Intermediate Age Group, Fashion Storyboard for her entry - Sports Emergency Medicine Kit.

RYLA students attend Rotary Club meeting

 

Local students attended a recent Atlanta Rotary Club luncheon where they shared their experiences from the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp.
Students from five area schools – Atlanta, Bloomburg, Linden, McLeod and Queen City – were chosen to attend the camp and  were sponsored by the Atlanta Rotarians. NPSOT hosts plant sale

The Caddo Wildflower Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas held the 5th annual native plants sale Saturday, May 4, at the Cass County Expo Building off Loop 59 in Atlanta. Patrons acquired annuals, perennials, shrubs and vines native to Texas at bargain prices.

Wells wins ‘Best of Show’ in Wildflower Trails Car Show

 

Larry Wells won Best of Show with his 1969 Camaro in the Linden Wildflower Trails sixth annual Car Show held April 27 in the First Baptist Church parking lot.
“I think the 2013 car show was a great success and the best we have had in Linden,” said Rodney Love event coordinator.  
There were 28 cars in the show with participants from Texarkana, Redwater, Marshall, Jefferson, Queen City, Atlanta and Linden.

Local students presented with Good Citizen Awards

Trammel’s Trace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) met on Wednesday, May 1, in the First United Methodist Church-Atlanta parlor to present four local students with DAR Good Citizen Awards and Scholarships.

Whatley speaks at AWC meeting

The Atlanta Woman’s Club met Monday, April 8, at the home of Kathy Gilbert. Hostesses for the event were Pam Boyce, Kathy Gilbert and Stephanie Terry.

Veterans honored at festival

Sunshine broke through the cloudy skies and a threat of rain as area veterans were honored with a parade and program Saturday during the Linden Wildflower Trails Festival.
People gathered with signs, flags and cheers to celebrate freedom and to show thanks to those who have served our country.

Native plant sale Saturday at Cass County Expo

Caddo Wildflower Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will hold its 5th annual native plant sale from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, May 4, at the Cass County Expo Building off Highway 59 Loop, Atlanta.
Annuals, perennials, shrubs and vines native to Texas will be available for sale. Some plants available include Mealy Blue Sage, Purple Coneflower, Black-eyed Susan, Scarlet Buckeyes and Snapdragon Vine. 
A short seminar on the available plants and their growing requirements will be presented at 8:30 a.m. Those attending the seminar will be the first admitted to the sale.
