Faint traces of the Jefferson and Northwestern Railway are still visible in and around Linden. Indentions of the track bed can be found from Jefferson to Lanier into Linden and extending into Marietta and Naples. The J & NW RY served Linden and the surrounding communities from 1899 until 1941.
Built in 1891, the narrow gauge logging tram brought logs from camps located in Northern Cass County to the Clark and Boice Lumber Mill on the east bank of the Big Cypress Bayou north of Jefferson. Clark and Boice had built their lumber mill in Jefferson in 1881, and it quickly became one of the largest lumbers mills to ever operate in Marion County. A Southern Cross dedication and memorial service for Pvt. John Lenard Morgan, Co. F 19th (Dawsons) Arkansas Infantry, Confederate States of America (CSA), will be held at 11 a.m. in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bryans Mill. His great-great-grandson, Ronald Stringer, will read the biography and unveil the Confederate marker.
