Linden-Kildare CISD holds Meet the Teacher Night

Linden-Kildare CISD campuses held meet the teacher night Thursday. The halls were crowded as parents and students made their way to find their classroom and new teachers.

Ribbon Cutting at B&G Automotive

Bobby’s B&G Automotive celebrated its grand opening and ribbon cutting Saturday.  The community came out and showed their support for this new business in Linden. Owner Bobby Howard cut the ribbon as citizens, city officials, friends and family looked on.

City of Linden Alderman, Holly Wall, has recently completed the Year 1 Class of the 27th Annual Community Development Institute- Central (CDI) at the University of Central Arkansas. 
CDI trains community leaders and economic development professionals on how to strengthen their local economies and build communities.

Txdot reminds motorists to ‘Drive friendly. Drive safe.’

Back-to-school means back-to-traffic, and as students return to the classroom this fall, the Texas Department of Transportation calls on drivers to “Drive Friendly. Drive Safe.” to reduce crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists. 
In 2012, vehicles on Texas roads struck more than 5,000 pedestrians resulting in 2,962 serious injuries and 481 fatalities. Vehicles also struck more than 2,000 bicyclists resulting in 1,450 serious injuries and 56 fatalities. Compared with the previous year, 2012 saw a 13.2 percent increase in pedestrian fatalities and a 19.1 percent increase in bicyclist fatalities.

Woods celebrate with trip, cruise

Suzanne and Ralph Wood were married Aug. 17, 1963 at the First Baptist Church of Avinger, Texas. 
Suzanne is retired from a career in teaching and secretarial work. 
Ralph remains active on the Baylor University faculty, where he teaches Christian theology in its relation to literary texts.

Awards to be given for safety leadership

(AUSTIN) Each summer in Texas there are hundreds of children injured and killed in accidents – in pools, on bikes, in hot cars.  Such accidents are a leading cause of developmental disabilities in children. On Aug. 22 the Texas Office for Prevention of Developmental Disabilities (TOPDD) will honor seven people or organizations that are leaders in working to prevent accidents that cause disabilities.
The 3rd Annual J.C. Montgomery Child Safety Awards will be awarded Thursday, Aug. 22 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lieutenant Governor’s Reception Room at the Texas State Capitol.

Honor Guard supplies local students with back-to-school goodies

The ESD#2 Honor Guard delivers school supplies to Queen City ISD Interim Superintendent Bobbie Wright, QCHS Principal Charlotte Williams, J.K. Hileman Elementary School Principal Carla Dupree and Morris Upchurch Middle School Principal Steve Holmes on Friday. The Honor Guard members said this was just a token of appreciation to the community for all their support over the past several months.
