Port Jefferson History, Nature Center to open this weekend

The Port Jefferson History and Nature Center will open a new outreach and educational programming with a multifaceted, 3-day event, beginning Thursday, Sept. 26, through Saturday, Sept. 28.  
Activities to commemorate National Public Lands Day, officially dedicate, and open the park are titled “WILD Daze” and will take place at Jefferson Transportation and Visitor Center, Collins Academy and at the new river walk park in Jefferson.

Style show to benefit local auxiliary

Entering the hospital in Atlanta, one may need many things, not the least of which could be simply a kind face and warm heart. This is what auxiliary volunteers strive to offer in all that they do. These ladies and gentlemen make the local CHRISTUS St. Michael’s Hospital a little warmer for those who must visit or stay at the hospital for medical treatment. The group is organizing a fall event to raise money for their volunteer organization. Honor Guard observes 9/11

The Cass County ESD#2 Honor Guard make a special appearance at the Sept. 13 football game between Queen City and Linden-Kildare high schools. The presentation in observance of 9/11 was made in full uniform. The honor guard sold T-shirts during the game as well.

Chamber to host civic awards banquet Saturday

“Gone Fishin” is the theme of this year’s civic awards banquet hosted by the Linden Area Chamber of Commerce. 
More than 20 volunteers will be recognized by several organizations. The highlight of the evening will be the chambers announcement of their Volunteer of the Year. IP’s Texarkana Mill Foundation Grant deadline is Sept. 20

International Paper’s Texarkana Mill is accepting applications for International Paper Foundation grants at www.ipgiving.com until Sept. 20, 2013.  Over the past two years, the mill has awarded more than $125,000 in IP Foundation grants to non-profit organizations and schools throughout the community. 
The International Paper Foundation’s primary focus is on environmental education and literacy. Early school days at Bear Creek School

Many of the community schools have nothing documenting the schools that could be found. Family photographs and word of mouth are the only methods to achieve the information. Kiphart to discuss monarch migration at meeting
