Rabbs triumphant in Sabine Tournament, win championship

Atlanta’s varsity boys’ basketball team looked like a well-oiled team this past weekend as they finished the Sabine Tournament with a 4-0 record and clinched the championship trophy.
Atlanta paired up against county foe Linden-Kildare and jumped out to a 33-5 first quarter lead with hot shooting and pressing defense.

Frustrated captain catches extra citation 
Game wardens from Harris and Galveston Counties worked between the Galveston jetties and Galveston Bay looking for fishing violations. Several citations were issued, including two citations issued to oyster boats for having undersized catch. 
After returning his oysters to the reef, one captain began venting his frustration by throwing plastic jugs and burlap oyster sacks overboard as well. The wardens re-boarded the boat and cited the captain for littering.

Benson commits to LeTourneau University

Queen City senior Kelsie Benson committed to LeTourneau University on an Academic Scholarship on Dec. 20.

Lady Bulldogs fall to L-K, 48-32

Queen City had a district bout with Linden-Kildare on Dec. 20, but couldn’t contain L-K’s shooters and fell 48-32.
Three Lady Tigers scored double digits in the contest but QC tried to stay in the game behind Kelsie Benson and KeKe Henderson’s 11 points each. Read more in our e-edition:

Queen City boys’ teams sweep L-K

Queen City traveled to Linden-Kildare on Dec. 20, and left town with victories in both the varsity and junior varsity games.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-7 first quarter lead that ballooned to 33-17 by halftime. The Tigers kept pace with QC in the second half scoring 28 to Queen City’s 30 but the first half proved to be fatal for L-K as the ’Dawgs rolled to a 63-45 win.

Pursuit on the high seas
The crew of the TPWD law enforcement vessel, Captain Murchison, working with National Marine Fisheries Service agents, apprehended operators of a fishing vessel containing several thousand pounds of illegally harvested red snapper recently. The Captain Murchison chased the alleged poachers after dark for a long distance, while the alleged poachers were dumping fish overboard . The vessel was finally shut down and boarded and the Game Wardens discovered there were thousands of pounds of snapper remaining onboard.

Varsity Tigers fall to Daingerfield, JV wins

Linden-Kildare traveled to Daingerfield on Dec. 17, for their first district match against another Tiger team.

Lady Rabbs take 3-of-4 in New Boston tourney

Atlanta took part in the New Boston Gunslinger Tournament on Dec. 12, and left with three victories out of four.
The Lady Rabbs fell behind to Hughes Springs 24-20 at the half and found themselves down 36-29 going into the final frame.

Lady Tigers lose to Daingerfield

The Lady Tigers battled Daingerfield on Dec. 17, but came out on the losing end as Daingerfield hit a basket at the buzzer to win the contest 44-42.
