County looking into death of inmate

Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe’s office, along with Texas Rangers, are investigating the death of a mental patient being held at the Cass County Jail on April 15. 
Rowe said 50-year-old Beverly Dubal, of Bloomburg, died on Monday, April 15, while in custody. 
“Dubal had been in custody on an emergency mental hold since April 5” Rowe said. “We were trying to find a bed for her in a mental hospital.”

Early voting draws big first day numbers

Early voting in the May election was off to a brisk pace Monday with 216 registered voters making their voices heard by casting their ballots. 
On the ballot, Linden residents will settle the hotly contested debate whether to legalize the sale of alcohol including mixed beverages.

Child Find efforts now underway

Staff Report
The Cass County Shared Services Arrangement and its member districts offer comprehensive special education services to eligible students ages 3 through 21 years and to children from birth through age 21 years who have a hearing or visual impairment.  Children from birth to age three with other disabilities will be referred to appropriate agencies for services.  
All referrals are considered confidential and services are provided at no cost.  The parent, legal guardian or surrogate parent retains the right to refuse services and are provided other procedural safeguards under federal and state law.

Linden City Council passes alcohol ordinance

The Linden City Council approved an alcohol ordinance April 23 in a two-hour special meeting held to address several issues. 
It was recommended the ordinance should be in place in the event the sale of alcohol and mixed beverages passes in the May 11 city election.

County to cut timber

Cass County Commissioners on Monday accepted a $60,000 bid to harvest timber on a tract owned by the county.

Aaron named Journal Managing Editor

Arklatex local Robin Aaron has been named Managing Editor of the Citizens Journal, according to publisher Austin Lewter.
“Robin is a rare breed of journalist who genuinely cares about community journalism and the ideas we try to foster here at the Journal,” Lewter said. 
A native of Simms, Aaron holds a degree in Mass Communications from TAMU-Texarkana. 
She comes to Atlanta from New Boston where she has served as the editor of the Bowie County Citizens Tribune since 2009.

World Champion Bullfighter, Rob Smets to emcee rodeo

ProRodeo Hall of Famer and five-time World Champion Bullfighter Rob Smets, better known as “The Kamikaze,” will be the announcer for the 13th Annual Cass County Championship Rodeo.
The rodeo is set for Friday and Saturday, April 26-27, at the Cass County Rodeo Grounds located on Hwy 8 North at FM 1399 across from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department in Linden.

Posters hung to honor veterans

A group of student volunteers hung posters Friday in honor of local veterans created by students and family members.
This is part of the Wounded Warrior program, organized by Linden resident Jo Miller. 
The Linden-Kildare High School students spent almost four hours Friday alphabetizing and hanging posters for the veterans’ tribute.

CCC Rodeo slated for Friday, Saturday

ProRodeo Hall of Famer and five-time World Champion Bullfighter Rob Smets, better known as “The Kamikaze,” will be the announcer for the 13th Annual Cass County Championship Rodeo.
