Linden Parks receives conservation grant

Linden City Park receives a Resource Conservation and Development grant.

City receives final payment

County to hire full-time court coordinator

Commissioners amended the 2013 budget Monday for a fulltime court coordinator. According to Precinct 3 Commissioner Paul Cothren said District Judge Ralph Burgess and County Court-at-Law Judge Donald Dowd requested a fulltime court coordinator last year during the 2013 budget workshop. Fireworks Celebration

Fireworks splash across the sky just after midnight on July 4. The Cornerstone Assembly of God puts together a fireworks show every year after their stand closes at midnight. The money raised will benefit the church’s youth program.

Holiday wreck kills 1

An Omaha man was pronounced dead following a one-vehicle accident July 4.
Miles Ray Stultz, 34, was driving a 2002 Buick northwest on Farm-to-Market 1399 around 11 p.m. and, according to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the car left the road on the west side and struck a tree. Local rest stop eligible for free WiFi if sponsors found

WIFI service to a rest area on 59, between Atlanta and Linden, could potentially be reinstated if the state finds a sponsor for the service. 
TxDOT is currently conducting interviews with potential sponsors for free internet WIFI service at rest areas across the state, according to Marcus Sandifer, public information officer for the Atlanta District.

Atlanta concludes mapping grant project

The Atlanta City Council accepted a final report concerning and ongoing grant project that has been underway for several months mapping city use within municipal boundaries.

Hudson looking for a new trial

Convicted murderer seeks another look by court

Cynthia Hudson of Queen City was convicted of the 2008 murder of her 14-year-old adopted son and has now filed a brief asking for a new trial. 
Her appellate lawyer, Troy Hornsby, filed the motion Friday asking the court to take another look at Hudson’s case because, he said, the jury in the initial trial did not have the option of convicting his client with manslaughter. 
Testimony in the Hudson case stated the 50-year-old mother bludgeoned her 14-year-old adopted son Samuel to death with a rake, computer cord, broom and mop handles and a baseball bat on Dec. 3, 2008. Read more in our e-edition:

Commissioners discuss unresolved courthouse issues

Cass County commissioners met June 24 in executive session to discuss unresolved construction issues concerning the restored Cass County Courthouse. After the hour-long meeting, commissioners adjourned. 
Cass County Attorney Robert Davis of Flowers-Davis, P.L.L.C., in Tyler, Texas, said they are negotiating with the surety company RLI and more meetings will be held to discuss the unresolved issues.
