Linden’s wells succumb to increased usage

City council approves $44,000 city hall renovation

Last week during a council meeting held July 8 Linden City Council looked at detailed plans presented by Alderman Sue Lazara of the proposed city hall renovation project. Lazara has been working on the project since January.
The project includes completely remodeling the interior, removing the drop ceiling and exposing the original tin ceiling. It also includes creating a break room with kitchenette, an ADA compliant restroom, the front lobby will be revamped with new flooring, light fixtures and making use of the décor already there. State will not appeal 11th District Court ruling

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) will not appeal a district court ruling a case regarding water planning to the Texas Supreme Court.
The District Court ruling in the lawsuit, brought by Ward Timber and several landowners in the Sulphur River Basin, requires TWDB to resolve a conflict between two of the state’s official Water Planning Groups.
The 11th District of Texas Court of Appeals issued its ruling May 23 in the case of Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), versus a number of this region’s land owners, including Ward Timber, LTD. and Ward Timber Holdings.

Child ID kits now available at CCSO

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is providing free child I.D. kits to the public.
The National Child Identification Program (NCIP) allows for children, beginning at age 4 to be fingerprinted with the identification information being maintained by parents.

GSMC named among 100 Great Community Hospitals for second year

LONGVIEW - Becker’s Hospital Review recently announced its list of “100 Great Community Hospitals,” which recognized Good Shepherd Medical Center as one of five Texas hospitals to make the list based on quality of care and service to the community. FEMA awards nearly $48M to Texas for firefighting costs

DENTON – More than $47.9 million was recently awarded to the state of Texas by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for reimbursement of expenses to fight the wildfires that burned in 168 counties and destroyed more than 1.3 million acres of land in 2011.

FSA NAP coverage available for 2014 annual forage crops

Bowie-Cass-Marion-Red River County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Cody Grayson, announced Texas FSA will offer Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) coverage for 2014 crops that are planted annually and used for livestock feed or fodder. 
The Risk Management Agency (FSA) recently announced a pilot program that offers a CAT level Rainfall Index-Annual Forage Insurance Plan to producers in Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

Calling all princesses

The Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Miss Atlanta pageant for girl ages 0-24 years on August 10, 2013. That is less than a month away. 
The local chamber has already partnered with many local businesses who have agreed to sponsor the pageant. These include Terri’s Treasures, First National Bank, Merle Norman, Woodforest National Bank, Superior Realty, Tumbling Tots Gymnastics and Robinson Realty. These sponsorships make this annual event possible, but competitors are still needed.

Johnson arrested, accused of sexual assault of child

Johnny Daulton Johnson was arrested July 5 on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child. The victim in this case is a 12-year-old female. 
Johnson was taken into custody on North Street in Douglassville at approximately 10 a.m. He is currently in custody at the Cass County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Children’s’ Independence Day Parade in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Children’s’ Independence Day Parade in downtown Atlanta Saturday, July 6.
Petite Miss Atlanta Gracie Wise rode atop a red, white and blue golf cart. Tammy Duncan School of Dance had a group of flag-waving, banner-toting cuties. There were strollers, bicycles, scooters, wagons, children of all ages, even pets in the parade.
