2013 property tax statements arrive

Property owners should be receiving their 2013 tax statements in the mail this week if they haven’t already. The Cass County Tax Assessor Collector mailed out tax statements last week for all property in Cass County. The tax office collects for all the taxing entities in Cass County.  
Property owners in Queen City Independent School District should be aware that their 2013 consolidated tax statement does not include property located within the Queen City School District.

County saving big with API

Inmates must now pay up front for release, monitoring

Community Supervision and Corrections Department Director Catherine Betts presented information at an earlier Commissioners Court meeting on Sept. 23 about the county’s Alternative to Incarceration Program (AIP).

To meet 27 year-old Bridgett Turney, one might never guess the lifetimes that lie behind her eyes or the comeback story that her life has become. 
One might never imagine how drugs had once reduced the blond, brown-eyed young lady they see before them to an emaciated state, living in a tin shed and begging God to help her or take her life. To look at her now, it would probably never occur to anyone...

Atlanta’s hospital one year later

Community’s medical facility gets a check up as it prepares to wraps up first year of operation

Nearly one year after CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital took over operation of Atlanta Memorial Hospital, the administration and the Atlanta Hospital Authority Board of Directors reports that the facility is showing new signs of life and expanding its reach into the community.   
The Citizens Journal was invited for a walking tour and conversation with Hospital Administrator Thomas McKinney, MHA. According to McKinney, the mission of the CHRISTUS St. Michael Health system and the community of Atlanta have been a wonderful fit and the transition has now reached a new phase of development.

APD searching for suspects in two local robberies

Atlanta Police are seeking two suspects in connection with a robbery that occurred Sept. 28 and another assailant that committed an armed robbery at Domino’s Pizza on Sept. 25. Both cases are under investigation. 
Atlanta Police Dept. are on the lookout for two men they believe to have committed an aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon at an Atlanta residence on Sept. 28.

Court awards food supplies bid to CBM

Commissioners accepted a bid submitted by CBM Managed Services during the Sept. 23 court session for food supplies for the jail. 
Commissioners received and opened three bids on Sept. 9 for food supplies in the jail division for FY 2014. Bids were received from Ben E. Keith Foods of Ft. Worth, Five Star Correctional Services of Dallas and CBM Managed Services of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Queen City ISD hosts technology conference for area teachers

Teachers from Northeast Texas school districts recently attended a SMART Board User’s conference hosted by ComputerLand Network Technologies of East Texas and Queen City ISD.  
SMART Boards are interactive white boards that help teachers and students intuitively interact with computers and each other during class. Construction underway at Linden City Park

Linden Area Parks Development Board received a Resource Conservation and Development grant. Linden Area Parks Development Board Chairman Glenn Lanier announced to parks board members in July that the Linden City Park had been approved for a grant.

Monumental shift in health care kicks off

AUSTIN - The new health insurance marketplace under the Affordable Care Act began Tuesday, Oct. 1. The exchange will allow Texans to choose from a variety of pricing and coverage options. 
Amanda Fredriksen, director of advocacy, AARP Texas, said among those expected to benefit are older workers, especially in the wake of the Great Recession.
