Cass County Sheriff’s Office inducted their newest member to the force Thursday as they welcomed Daisy, the new K9 narcotics dog, to the department.
Sheriff Larry Rowe administered the oath to Daisy, a female black Labrador retriever. Rowe commissioned Daisy as a law enforcement officer of Cass County and the State of Texas, giving her all the rights, privileges and emoluments appertaining to the appointment. John Steven Daniel is wanted for probation violation on a burglary of building and another probation violation for possession of a controlled substance. He also has a probation violation for possession of Marijuana.
The completion of a Community Healthcore mental health crisis wing is underway at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital in Atlanta. The new unit will hopefully offer help to local and regional residents struggling with mental health issues and alleviate strain for local emergency room care.

The Department of Justice announced Thursday that it will file a new lawsuit against the State of Texas, the Texas Secretary of State, and the Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety over the State’s strict voter photo identification law (SB 14). The United States’ complaint seeks a declaration that SB 14 violates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, as well as the voting guarantees of the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution.
