LYAA moves forward after embezzlement issue resolved

Rumors of embezzlement involving the Linden Youth Athletic Association (LYAA) were confirmed last week by LYAA President Nathan Trammell. 
He said, on Jan. 17, he discovered a large amount of money missing from the LYAA account. The board was notified later that evening. A meeting was held and board members discussed the issue and agreed they needed to act in the best interest of the children the organization serves.

Trustees extend Cowley’s contract

Linden-Kildare CISD board of trustees agreed to extend the superintendent’s contract for two more years during a special meeting held Jan. 25 to conduct the superintendent’s evaluation and discuss his contract.
Trustees agreed to give Superintendent Dr. James Cowley a $3,000 annual raise to take effect beginning with his July 1 contract. Cowley’s current salary is $99,100. He has been employed by the district since April 2011.

Linden’s sales tax allocation down slightly

Linden’s sales tax allocation check in February was slightly below last year’s rebate but it’s up 5 percent overall compared to 2012, according to figures released by the Texas Comptroller’s Office.
The city’s allocation for $30,096 in February is down a fraction, .48 percent, from the $30,243 received this time last year. Linden’s sales tax rate is 2 percent.

After disagreement, Domino man files for top spot

Domino resident Al Campbell discovered that’s not necessarily the case at Domino City Hall.

Reimbursements for fire received

More than two years after a forest fire that destroyed more than 40,000 acres in Cass and Marion counties, the federal government has put a check in the mail.
Cass County Auditor Tammy Wells told commissioners on Monday her office received a check totaling $420,674.21 to reimburse various entities that provided manpower and equipment during the fire.
