Sixteen 4-H club members from the Hughes Springs, Douglassville and Hope 4-H Clubs recently participated in the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Photography contest. A total of 28 photo entries were submitted at both the county and district level contest. These seven puppies (5 females, 2 males) rescued from an abandoned house, are four-months-old, kennel trained and up to date on all shots. You must sign a spay/neuter contract and there is an adoption fee of $30 for each. Second Chance Furbabies is a non-profit, “no-kill” animal shelter located at 7639 FM 251 in Bloomburg, next to the Cass Baptist Church. On Thursday, the Good Shepherd Health System Board of Directors announced the appointment of a new president and chief executive officer. Steve Altmiller has accepted the position and will begin filling this role on July 22.
With the onset of summer comes a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Farmer’s markets are now open in Atlanta and Linden, with local farmers seeking to sell their harvest.
Saturday’s market offered a large assortment of locally-grown produce. There were fresh blueberries, corn, tomatoes, red potatoes, green beans, snake beans, yellow squash, golden zucchini and cucumbers. There were also homemade jellies, jams and soaps.
Frederic and Judith Campana traveled from Switzerland to attend the T-Bone Walker Blues Fest. While in Linden, they went a step further and volunteered to serve artists and other VIPs in attendance at the festival. Frederic said it is “just natural to volunteer.”
