James discovers moth uncommon to this area

Arthalia James saw an out-of-the-ordinary site Monday outside her home. 
The Atlanta resident said she was visiting outside her home when she saw a unique moth that struck her curiosity.

Eagle Landing Adopt-a-Highway volunteer group honored

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) honored the Eagle Landing Home Owners Association in Avinger for its efforts to keep Texas highways clean and beautiful. The association was presented an award as the best of the exemplary Adopt-A-Highway groups that do an outstanding job of picking up litter on its adopted section of Texas highways. The group has adopted a two-mile section of State Highway 155 west of Avinger. Rural Development Acting under Secretary Doug O’Brien announced that USDA is accepting applications for grants to help rural public television broadcasters complete the transition to digital signals. Ebenezer CME Church of Lodi will have an Appreciation Service at 3:30 p.m. for their pastor, the Rev. Shelia Timberlake, Sunday, July 28. Special guests will be the Rev. Arlistel Maxie and the Shiloh Missionary Baptist church of Atlanta.
Hughes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Hughes Springs will hold the Annual Revival at 7 p.m. nightly from Monday, July 29 through Wednesday, July 31. Guest speaker will be the Rev. CRT members attend convention

The James Bowie Children of the Republic of Texas chapter recently attended the CRT State Convention in Dallas, where they received the Four Star Award and the State CRT Scrapbook Award, for the fifth year in a row.

Korean War Armistice Day

Often referred to as “The Forgotten War” the Korean War began on June 25, 1950 when over 70,000 troops of the Democratic Republic of North Korea (Communist North) poured across the 38th parallel invading the Republic of Korea (South Korea).

Texas A&M University-Texarkana has announced recently that they have launched a new safety and security mobile app feature called TAMUT eduSafe. The mobile app was designed by the Texas A&M Health Science Center. It is now available for both Apple and Android phone and tablet users.
