Nolen, Tyson in Thanksgiving parade

Students from the Tammie Duncan School of Dance in Atlanta, who were invited to participate in the 87th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, are Ashley Nolen and Ashley Tyson.  
The students joined with dancers from all over America for a week of rehearsals with Spirit of America choreographers in New York prior to the parade. On parade morning, the students walked the nearly three-mile parade route and performed for television cameras in Herald Square in front of the famed Macy’s Department Store.
The young women have danced together since kindergarten under the tutelage of “Miss Tammie” Duncan.
Ashley Nolen is the daughter of Mitchell and Shannon Nolen. Ashley Tyson is the daughter of Mary Ann and Doug Jordan and the late Greg Tyson.

Chamber to kick off drive

The Linden Area Chamber of Commerce met on Dec. 3. Board members present included Rebecca Narramore, Glenn Lanier, Patricia Erwin and Bob Money. Chamber members Diane Hulme, Robbie Hood, Warren Pennington and Angela Guillory attended the meeting.

Medicare coverage means individual mandate is met

Texas News Service - With the rough roll-out of the health care marketplaces, some senior citizens are raising concerns about the Affordable Care Act, but a new report has found that, for them, it has led to more benefits - without more obligations. 
Report author Jon Bailey, director, rural public policy program, Center for Rural Affairs, said most of the provisions that directly affect seniors have been in place since 2010, and they center around enhanced benefits in terms of preventive care and treatment.

Planning to give a bicycle for Christmas?

With Christmas approaching, many parents are planning to give their child a new bicycle – maybe even their first bicycle. This is an excellent opportunity to teach children about the importance of wearing a helmet to protect their head. 
According to National Safe Kids, helmets can reduce the risk of severe brain injury by up to 88 percent, but only 45 percent of children wear bike helmets. According to National Safe Kids, bicycles are associated with more injuries in children than any other product except automobiles.

Christmas Wish List 2013

The Cass County Child Protective Services board of directors is asking local residents to help provide an additional gift for each foster child from Cass County in the annual Christmas Wish List Project. There are a few children left. Please call the Citizen Journal office at 903-796-7133 or stop by 306 W. Main in Atlanta to leave your name and phone number beside the number of the child you wish to “adopt” for this special project.
The unwrapped gifts must be returned to the Citizen Journal office by Wednesday, Dec. 11, with the number of the child attached to it. Most gifts are $30 and under and there is no limit on the number of children who can be adopted. 
Each gift helps to make Christmas a little merrier for all Cass County foster children.

Tour of Homes to feature 4 historic, notable dwellings

Attendees of the Atlanta Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 4th Annual Tour of Homes are in for a treat. “All of the houses are so different,” declared Chairman Diane Giesler of the AMH Foundation Board of Directors. 
Four houses in Atlanta and Huffines will be open to the public Sunday, Dec. 8, in hopes you will celebrate the season with them and help raise money for the hospital.
