The change agent’s credo

By Bro. Bob Money
Linden Church of Christ
We live in a day of change. Politicians are clamoring to be recognized as change agents. The denominational world has its change agents. Evangelicals are overrun with them. Even the Catholic Church has a change movement within its ranks.

Rural Schools that no longer exist

By Oreta Wright
Sun Columnist
The rural schools of the past were totally different than today. The times have changed and so has the culture. Among the many things they were dedicated to teach were the three “R”s. The people I have talked to that went to school in the 30’s and 40’s and up into the 50’s tell similar stories.
Many schools started with primer and then first grade through 11th grade and later from first grade through 12th grade. Academic standards were high; no grading on the curve, what you made was what you got on your report card.  Read more in our e-edition:  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Casscounty1//Magazine33961/Full/index.aspx?id=33961

Getting Used to the Darkness

By Bro. Jackie Stanfield
First Baptist Church of Linden
I shared a message on this with our congregation not long ago, and I believe it’s a great reminder for all of us.
1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”  Read more in our e-edition:  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Casscounty1//Magazine33576/Full/index.aspx?id=33576

Sack lunches

By James McMillan
Linden United Methodist Church
In the Gospel of John’s version of Jesus feeding the 5,000, Jesus asked Philip, “Where can we buy bread to feed these people?” Philip said, “that is a moot point because it would take over 200 pieces of silver and we don’t have that.”  Read more in our e-edition:  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Casscounty1//Magazine33074/Full/index.aspx?id=33074

Creepy crawlies...I do not like them

By Oreta Wright
Sun Columnist
Creepy crawlies are just that - crawlies. I can tolerate or accept any creature with legs but not creepie crawlies. I never knew until a few years ago that there were such things as night crawlers.
My husband was telling me of such creatures as we were standing under a big pecan tree with years of leaves under it. He improvised making a stick to call them up.

The magic day is almost here

By Dr. James Cowley
L-KCISD Superintendent
For many of us that have a school age child living in our homes, Aug. 26 is the magic day when school will begin. For us at school, we have had about two weeks of training and preparation taking place for the magic day to arrive. The healing power of laughter

By Pamela Lincoln

Researchers in family relationships identify a sense of humor or laughter as an indicator of strong families. When family relations become strained or the family experiences difficult financial times, laughter is harder to generate, or may cease to exist.  Read more in our e-edition:  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Casscounty1//Magazine32656/Full/index.aspx?id=32656

It’s been a good summer

By Byran Baggett
Pinecrest Baptist Church
I’ve heard the refrain so many times the past few months: “It’s been such a good summer so far.” Usually that reference is to one of a few things.
The weather - cooler than previous summers, several weeks of really nice, unseasonal temperatures.
The rain - most of the yards are still relatively green, no real worries about forest fires, plenty for gardens.  Read more in our e-edition:  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Casscounty1//Magazine32192/Full/index.aspx?id=32192

Helping children achieve success

By Pamela Lincoln

Family and Consumer Sciences
School will be starting soon, but remember education starts at home.  Parents prepare children for school success or school failure.
Every child has scholastic aptitude, but school success means more than a level of achievement.  It means learning all that one is capable of learning and doing what one is capable of achieving. The Key to Emotional Stress: Forgiveness

By Pamela Lincoln

Women often put the needs of the family and others before their own and face a lot of stress and various emotions. Guilt of being pulled in so many directions – work, children and home can be overwhelming.
