National School Bus Safety Week

By Tracy Broadway
I had an unidentified Atlanta ISD bus driver stop by the office an afternoon last week, after running his route, asking if we would place something in the newspaper to remind local motorist they must come to a complete stop in front or behind busses when the flashing red lights are on. The bus driver was very concerned after having an unattentive law breaker drive run through his heed to stop, saying the driver was apparently distracted by the cell phone conversation they were having. Sound familiar?

Social epidemic affects all ages in today’s society

Tracy Brodway
Publisher
“Teen takes life; social bullying at fault,” “Disgruntled employee takes hostages; says supervisor, co-workers to blame.” These headlines are becoming more common across America as we deal with the traumatic experiences related to the growing epidemic of bullying – most common against our children, but also among adults, who have been dealing with the problem in the workplace for years.

Church feuds

By Bryan Baggett
Pinecrest Baptist Church
The Hatfields and McCoys, the stuff of legend and a great mini-series a while ago. And although the names have been changed to protect the guilty, both parties are still alive and well in most churches today.
You probably know them, as I said, not by their well-known names, but by their given names. And they fight and feud, bark and bicker, quibble and quarrel.
Don’t they make church a great place to be? Don’t they make you want to come even more?  Read more in our e-edition:  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Casscounty1//Magazine36799/Full/index.aspx?id=36799

'It mattered to that one'

By Robin Aaron

Sitting down to write a story about a young woman who has completely changed her life for the better is always a pleasure.
To see the light in her eyes and, at times, the pain of regret as she recounts how she has experienced such a violently drastic transformation, I count to be a privilege in a way that is unique to my profession.
I can hear in my mind what may be some of the comments that will be said as our local readers look through our feature about addiction. I know the many types of reactions that will result.

Cooking up a cottage food business

By Pamela Lincoln

Recent changes to the Texas Cottage Food Law mean that more foods can be prepared and sold from a residential kitchen.
“The previous law limited the foods that could be sold to mainly baked goods, jams and jellies, and dried herbs,” says Pamela Lincoln, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agent for Cass County. Ambassadors of Christ

By Bro. Jackie Stanfield
First Baptist Church of Linden
The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” This verse reminds us of our true relationship with God. We belong to Him, and are to follow His instructions on these responsibilities as His child.

Biblical heroes

By James McMillan
Linden United Methodist Church
When I think of the heroes that have impacted my life the most, I would have to say that they are the ones from the Bible.
David, is my favorite hero, I guess because for a bedtime story my Dad would often tell me the story of David and Goliath. You remember the story, David has been anointed by Samuel, on the quiet to be the next King of Israel and he goes to take food to his brother who are with King Saul fighting the Philistines and they have this huge giant that has them all terrified.  Read more in our e-edition:  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Casscounty1//Magazine35294/Full/index.aspx?id=35294

How to know if you are part of a redneck church

By Bryan Baggett
Pinecrest Baptist Church
I’m sure for those of you who are regular readers of this devotional column, you expect the ministers to come up with something original and unique. You expect us to put some thought into this column, and some effort into creating it. Well, I’m sure most of us usually do just that. But there are also times to borrow (steal or plagiarize seem like such harsh words!) something that is just too good to pass up.
If you’ve read this before, enjoy it again. If this is your first time, have a good laugh.  Read more in our e-edition:  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Casscounty1//Magazine34413/Full/index.aspx?id=34413
