Calculating on which day Easter Sunday falls

REV. JOHN C. WILKEY
Laws Chapel United Methodist Church
Christmas is always on December 25, regardless of what day of the week it falls on. Memorial Day is always the fourth Monday in May, regardless of what the date is. (Older people can remember when Memorial Day was always on May 30, regardless of what day of the week it fell on.) But, Easter is different...........http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Atlanta1//Magazine24217/Full/index.aspx?id=24217

What it all points to

BY BRYAN BAGGETT
Pinecrest Baptist Church
Every league, activity and program has it: that high point; the finale; the big show; that moment that overshadows all else.
Football has the Super Bowl. Stock car racing has the Daytona 500, beginning of the racing season (I still don’t understand that!), but still the big event for those crazy fans.  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Casscounty1//Magazine24009/Full/index.aspx?id=24009

In Loving Memory

The boards were worn on the old porch swing,
And the chain from which it hung,
Had rusted links and a certain squeak,
Whenever the swing was swung.

On a summer’s eve when chores were done,
And a soft wind whispered low,
You could hear the swing give out a squeak,
As it swing there to and fro.

You and I, sitting side by side,
Would recount the pleasant hours
Of visits from our children
Or working with garden and flowers.

The years have passed, and so have you.
I’m alone and far from young,
But at sunset I still hear at times,
The squeak of a swing as it swung.

Endsleys make way from Georgia, into Bloomburg

BY BRENDA BROWN

This is the last of three columns I will write (for now!) about William F. Endsley’s trip to Texas from Georgia in 1866. William was almost 8 years old when he journeyed west with his parents, William Pickney and Mary Urquhart Endsley, early settlers of Bloomburg and Miller County, Ark. Gary Endsley of Atlanta recently shared with me his great-great-uncle’s biography, written in 1939-40, and I can’t thank him enough! It’s a fabulous story!

Is anybody out there?

BY J. MARVIN WEEMS
Deacon, Northwood Presbyterian Church

I could not help but realize Martha Irvine, in an Associated Press story, asked a question Sunday concerning email, voicemail, texting, Twitter and answering machine messages......

Accordingly, when no one answers your email, voicemail, texts, Tweets, or vocal communication, confer with a fellow believer. Pray together to God. Lay out the facts and the problems as you see them. Believe God will respond and listen for that “still small voice.”

J. Marvin Weems is an attorney in Atlanta. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska in 1964, and is a deacon at Northwood Presbyterian Church in Texarkana. He has served as a commission Lay Pastor and volunteer chaplain, is married to Barb Weems and is a member of the Atlanta Area Rotary Club.

‘Who will stand up for what they believe?’

BY JACKIE STANFIELD
First Baptist Church of Linden

In a day when almost anything goes throughout our society, it’s time for Christians to take a stand for what God says is truth. As a country song puts it, “You’ve got to stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything.”

Endsleys’ journey to Texas quite memorable

BY BRENDA BROWN

Among the early settlers of Bloomburg and Miller County,  Ark., are ancestors of one of my Caddo Lake history mentors, Gary Endsley of Atlanta (AHS Class of ’67). I’m more than a little jealous because one of Gary’s great-great-uncles, William F. Endsley, took the time in 1939-40 to write down some of their family history and it’s a fabulous document regarding early Cass County, beginning around the time of the Civil War. Bloomburg!

Moral issues confronting Christians today

By Bob Money
Linden Church of Christ
In my last article concerning, “The Bible speaks out on the Dangers of Alcohol,” I only referred to what was said in the Old Testament, mainly in the book of Proverbs. However, there is much to be said about the dangers and the moral issues confronting us today, not only in the New Testament, but also common sense tells us dangers and moral issues are very evident.
