Burn ban is now in effect for Cass County

Cass County implemented a burn ban on Friday. Fidelity partners with Atlanta for high speed internet at business park

Thanks to a partnership with Fidelity Communications, the Atlanta Business Park now has high-speed Internet service to both businesses located there.
A project to run fiber optic and coax cable to the park was completed Aug. 19. Two companies, Guard-Line and FibrTec, are served by the new lines. Guard-Line makes safety apparel and FibrTec manufactures high-strength carbon fiber.

Commissioners propose 3 percent tax increase

Cass County Commissioners took a record vote on Thursday for the 2014 proposed tax rate. Precinct 4 Commissioner Darrell Godwin was opposed to a proposed rollback tax rate of .534241 for the 2013 property tax rate. Dry summer means higher risk for fires

County awaits completion of courthouse project

Once again Cass County commissioners held an executive session to discuss unresolved issues relating to the restored Cass County Courthouse. In the judge’s absence on Monday, court was led by Precinct 1 Commissioner Brett Fitts. 
The county has been waiting several months for RBR Construction to complete the restoration of the courthouse. There have been numerous delays on the project. Hailey in stable condition after rollover accident

An 18 year-old Queen City High School graduate Sierra Hailey is in stable condition after she was ejected from her vehicle early Sunday morning. The young lady was airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas after her vehicle rolled and came to rest in a garden on State Highway 77. She was not driving at the time. 
A 2005 Chevy Equinox was being operated by Taron Cooper at the time of the accident. Cooper reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to go into a side skid and roll over. The vehicle struck a fence and landed in the garden at that location near the intersection of...

Water woes continue for the City of Linden

The City of Linden has been facing serious water issues for the past several months with numerous costly repairs to old equipment. Current directors reappointed for city’s LEDC boards

After some discussion during Linden City Council’s regular meeting Aug. 12, council agreed to reappoint the current directors on the Linden Economic Development Corporations 4A and 4B boards.
Those directors are Malthus Northcutt, Frank Lanier, Chris Spencer, John Rountree, Richard Bowden, Larry Wells and Beverly Freeman.
